I shot this 10 point on Saturday the 7th of November in Minnesota. One shot from my 30-30 Topper with a 130 grain Barnes X bullet @95 yards.

A pic of our kill pole on Sunday morning. We shot a spike, a big bodied 8 and my 10 point is on the end. The 8 point is from a friend we made while in "Manysodas" who hunts one ridge over from us.

My buddy - the goofy one in the photo - shot this little buck in the knee at about 70 yards. We bloodtrailed it into the middle of 60 acres of standing corn. I dropped it for good with a shot that took out the heart and lungs. Hornady slugs at <10 yards are DEVESTATING. We split the meat, and we're donating the rack to the Ledgeview Nature Center in Chilton. G2 on the right is busted off, but the base stub that's left looks exactly like the forked G2 base on the left. 19.5" inside spread.

Nice buck!  Its hard to tell in the photo, how many points?

If you count the 1"+ stub on the busted G2, it's a 12 pointer. If you don't count it, it's an 11 pointer.

beauty.

donate the rack?

If it were a buck I bagged, he would make a great center piece on my wall.

Here's a pic of the rifle that got it and what there was for a rack.
Would've been a 8 point if he hadn't broken of the left side.

Watching none's daughter up to her elbows in ground venison is a beautiful, primal thing.  A family that hunts and butchers their own meat together is something more folks should aspire to do.

It actually is kinda fun. Spending quality time with the wife and kid putting away food for later in the year. We talk and laugh while making jokes and just plain having a good time, all the while I am teaching my daughter how to process venison (sure would hate to be the boyfriend who manages to really piss her off). It is more fun than parking it in front of the tv for a evening. Plus it a LOT cheaper, last time I had a deer comercially done it cost $65.00 and I never was sure I got my own deer back. This way I know for a fact that I am getting my own venison and it costs me nothing but time.

Erin actually will run the manual grinder without complaining for hours, I took pity on her after this deer and the wife and I went together on our Christmas presents and got a electric grinder.

We also have our own meat slicer and dehydrator so we make our own venison jerky.

Both my wife and I were raised on a farm so taking care of our venison is kinda second nature to us (am hoping to pass that along to my daughter).

I was brought up the same way, You shot it, You cut and wrap it up as well.

This year my little girl was there for everything.

I shot it in front of her

She did about 2/3 of the field dressing

Helped drag to the truck

After registering, she helped wash it out and got it up to hang.

The next afternoon after hunting in the morning she was helping skin, quarter, and got to bone out both of the front quarters on her own.

We got the table washed and then wrapped the meat for freezing.

By then she was wore out, But she learned lots those 2 days.

I couldn't even think of paying someone else to cut up my deer.

No pictures of the cutting, my hands were too messy for the camera.

Good on ya for two reasons.

1: for raising your girl correctly (IMHO, others may differ tho)
2: for having such a cute little one with the dimples, watch the boys in a few years when she learns how to use those to her advantage
