Friend is looking for someone to chop/thread a ruger MK III bull barrel, and another .22LR bull barrel rifle for possible suppressor use.

Anyone used any smiths who are reliable in quality, and pricing is fair (apx pricing if you have it as well)

I can't comment on the smiths, but I can comment on the platform. I went with a Tactical Solutions threaded upper for my 22/45, and absolutely love it.

Chop as in shorten?

I can do all this.

Thanks.

Didn't realize you could. Yeah, shorten a 4" Ruger MK III down (wanting to make it look more aesthetically pleasing with the suppressor attached), threading and then threading another .22LR rifle barrel, both to take the same threading for a yet to be decided suppressor. Also wouldn't mind getting some pricing from you if you can parkerize to match the matte look of the suppressor. Let me go see if I can find a picture of what I am looking for.

Any idea what an estimate of cost would be? You can PM if you want.

obviously would need the front sight tapped as well (if that's what it's called) here's what the final look would be:

trying to have it be less $$$. we looked at that solution, but having the upper be the same price as the gun = no-go

thanks for the idea though.

I had Lauer in Chippewa Falls do mine.  They turned a 2-week project into a 4 month cluster, giving me multiple incorrect estimates on when they'd finally get it done.  When I bitched to the owner, they finally got it done with only one more delay, and then told me they didn't actually do the work themselves––they farmed it out.  They declined to tell me who actually did the work.

I'm very pleased with the results and the quality of the work, but will never use Lauer again.

FWIW.

Thread and pitch 1/2"-28 on both?

What type of barrel is the rifle barrel? Make/model?

As for the MK3 Cut, recrown, thread, and re-mount the front sight would be $125 It will be extra if I have to refinish the barrel and/or receiver as a result of barrel removal. This will not apply if you give the barrel already removed with the receiver for fitting.  I don't pakerize at the moment but hope to in the spring. The best I could do is Duraheat the barrel and upper receiver.

If the barrel is just like a standard or bull 10/22 than cut, recrown and thread would be $100 if barrel removal is not required.

As an added note the barrels are threaded concentric to the bore using a single point cutter. This ensures the bore axis is inline with the supressor.

Let me know what you like to do.

Not sure on the thread and pitch. Going with a YHM Mite, which they say they can do multiple threading sizes. So might need a little guidance in that department.

The rifle is a Green Mountain bull, but it is fluted. didn't realize that, if it makes a difference, don't know if that's going to be an issue (fluting doesn't go all the way to the end of the barrel). I believe it's a 16".

Can remove both barrels as well, that's not a big deal. Wasn't sure if you mount and use a lathe or whatnot. This is new to us, sorry about the idiocracy.

No idiocy at all.

Generally 1/2"-28 is the most common for 22cal supressors. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

If you are just looking to have the rifle barrel threaded and not cut down then it's $75. If you want it cut down then I need to see the sbr paperwork and the flutes will look bad.

So $75 for the rifle barrel for just a thread. Add $20 for a thread protector.

MK3 $125 for the cut down, recrown, thread, and sight re-mount. For $20 I can make you a thread protector out of the old chunk of barrel and have it match well.

I can duraheat the suressor, barrel, and receiver for an extra fee.

Sounds perfect, and yeah don't need the barrel cut down, only threaded. I knew the fluting would make it look bad. I think there's almost 2" from the end of the barrel and the start of the fluting.

I'll pm you when we get things in order. Sounds like I'll go your route. Thanks for answering my questions
