My son's job is moving him to Green Bay for a year or so and I was wondering what the knife laws are there.
Specifically for pocket folders. I recently gave him a Spyderco Endura and IIRC, the blade is less than 4" Are there any restrictions to know about ? Thanks |

I know you're from AZ, so you likely haven't spent much time looking around the WI HTF...but the tacked threads at the top cover this. Specifically this one: WI EE, Legal FAQ, etc..
WI has no statewide law on blade length, however any knife could be classified as a 'dangerous weapon' and come under other statutes such as the concealed weapon statute. Also, some local govs. have their own blade length laws. From the legal FAQ: "Local knife laws DEFINITELY NOT A COMPLETE LISTING The following cities/villages prohibit the carry of knives with blades 3" or longer: * Village of Bayside, ord. 62-266 * City of Milwaukee, ord. 105-34(2)(a), p. 587. * City of Racine, ord. 66-56 * City of South Milwaukee, ord. 24.16 The City of Kenosha: "No person, except a parent or guardian shall sell directly or give away any knife with a blade of more than two (2) inches to a child under 11 years of age." Ord. 11.06 (p. 13)." I personally carry knives under 3" because I often go into some of these places with the under 3" rule. But other than that, if you aren't causing trouble, you (or your son) should not have problems. And please, tell your son: 'Welcome to WI' from us and invite him to post over here. We're a friendly bunch. P.S. and thanks to GlennR for the legal FAQ. (He's an author, you know!) |
