| I'd like to go camping for a night or 2 in a couple of weeks, and was wondering if you guys knew of any secluded camping sites within a couple hours of Beaver Dam. I definitely don't want to go somewhere like the Yogi Bear campground in the Dells. The further away from any other people the better. Something with decent hiking and fishing would be great. Any ideas? |

Castle Rock Lake (near Mauston) has a couple nice campgrounds. Both right on the lake (one on either side). Blackhawk Lake Campground near Dodgeville is pretty quiet http://www.blackhawklake.com/ |

Buckhorn State Park on Castle Rock Lake by Mauston has some good walk in Camping sites and they have lots of land to hike as well, and they have darn good fishing if you can get on them. Buckhorn is my favorite park in the state, mostly thanks to the seclusion provided by the walk-in camp sites. |

Harnischfeger Park 30 min from you and it is secluded... not a well knowen camping park.. there is a BP gas, store and beer /booze / food up the road too..some taverns... and not far to a town... it is off the beat and path... simple place. J.P. |

Our favorite place was Pinewoods campground, in the kettle moraine state forest. they have a "quiet zone" and its very qiet, you feel like its just you out there. the campstie as a whole is pretty quiet, its small and nestled along a rustic road south of Oconomowoc. Its a great place and one of my favorites. The Scuppernong state trail runs right along the campground.
otherwise, If you dont mind the drive there is rock island state park. its an island off the tip of door county. I've never been there, but always wanted to. might be worth looking into http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/Org/land/parks/specific/rockisland/ |
