If you have never shot before I would highly recommend a NRA course first and then check out Defensive Edge for more refined classes. They are top notch people and really know their stuff.
You will have to decide if you want to go the long gun route or a handgun route but both have a place IMHO. They are based out of MN but come to WI regularly to train us. |
| Seeing you have 0 firearms experiance, I'd start out by finding a Hunter Saftey class first. It's real basic with the biggest emphasis being saftey. Then move on to some NRA classes or hook up with one of us local guys. After you have some trigger time under your belt, Defensive Edge will get you squared away. |

There are plenty of NRA courses to take, and the "Basic Pistol" sounds right
as a starting point. It is for those with little to no experience with handguns. I believe there is also a "Basic Rifle" course, but don't remember off the top of my head. When you finally move here, let us know. There is at least one NRA affiliated club in the Neenah area, and I would be happy to help you find it. (My club shoots competitively against them, but I don't know anything more that that) |

I just found out that they are having some NRA Civilian Firearms Clinics/Classes at Fox
Valley Technical College this June and July. The clinics are for just women, and the Basic Pistol and Personal Protection in the Home are for any adults. If they go the website FVTC.edu and search for Firearms, the classes should show up. |

Wow I am not complaining but I find it funny that I have completed close to a hundred hours of pistol training in the last few years and yet I am not qualified to attend the Personal Protection in the home. Class pre-requisite: Must have successfully completed the NRA First Steps (Pistol) or NRA Basic Pistol class.
Seriously, I am not planning on attending this class but found it rather amusing.
I imagine this would indeed be a good class for someone new to shooting pistol tho. |

None

So basically I can't attend this course... cause I'm not qualified.........I might email the contact person to see if they take other training courses (Other then NRA )
I would be interested to take the course since I could sleep in my own bed on Sat Night... |
