Hello Wisconsin Folk,
I am looking for a decent range(s) which are ok with both rifles and pistols relatively close to Madison. I've heard of two free public ranges at Baraboo and Blanchardville but have had no luck finding them. Any help is much appreciated, thanks! :) |

The one near Blanchardville is close to Yellowstone State Park. On county F about 1/2 mile from county G.
It is free and no state park sticker needed. It is pretty crude with only a few picnic tables for benches. It has pistol and rifle range. Rifle range is 100yd or 200yd. Pistol range stays wet for a long time so bring waterproof boots. |
| Thanks for all the information! It's helped tremendously. :) I will have to take a Saturday off to try and find the range in Blanchardville. As well, I will have to look into the place at Columbus and Bristol; would probably turn it into an all day thing when I go. |

Deerfield and Waterloo both have ranges. I believe 100 yards is the max at both of those. Lodi if you can figure out the secret to get into that one. It appeared to be a closed system.
And Stoughton has 25/50/100 outside and an indoor pistol range. Plus nice trap and skeet fields. Shooting in the "hen house" thing with someone having a ported rifle is not "relaxing", so ear plus and muffs are a necessity. |

Plus black powder shooting is, well... a lil smokey in there I meant ear plugs... not ear plus.... And I like shooting muzzleloaders as well. Once myself and another guy were the only ones at the Stoughton Range and we were shooting our muzzleloaders during the week... We kept laughing each time. If there was someone else there it would not have been funny to them... But seriously... I was shooting next to a guy with a "B.O.S.S." on a decent magnum caliber. The shockwave "puff" and noise was intollerable. I packed up and left as quickly as possible. It was not like the guy meant to do it, but each shot was bringing him closer to "lip reading". |
