We are currently looking for locations to host several WI Appleseeds in 2009.  The organization is insured and the instructors are trained VERY thoroughly to ensure a safe event.
Please let me know of any potential locations.  In 2008, we held 3 events.  1 at Shiocton, 1 at Long Lake and 1 at Lodi.
For those who are not familiar with the Appleseed program, it is a nation wide organization with a goal of teaching basic Marksmanship to all who attend.  There is a single level of competency which is "Rifleman".  All you need to do is be able to shoot 4MOA in sitting and prone position at 25M.  The Off-Hand target is slightly larger.  For those who can do this, there is often shooting out to 400M the second day of the event.
Anyone who has ever shot High Power would be familiar with the positions.  For those who have not, we start with the very basics.  Sling usage is encouraged but not required.  Aperture style iron sights are encouraged but not required.  All rifle types are welcome.  All it takes is a rack grade rifle with surplus ammo to succeed.  Many people use a .22 to initially qualify at 25M to save $$ on ammo.  The 10/22 with a set of Tech-Sights is a proven combination.
Some US history surrounding the events of April 19th 1775 is included in order to enforce the significance and importance of everyone becoming involved in local, regional and national politics so that  Americans can continue out way of life and system of government.   The idea is that shooting is fun and it is a good way to get people off of their couches to wake them up a bit....
We are in just a large of a crisis if not larger than that which inspired the NRA to be formed.  The level of shooting competency across out great nation is simply embarrasing and disgraceful...  We can not win the hearts and minds of Americans to support the 2nd Amendment if they do not feel a personal stake in the issue.

For starters, we are shooting for an April 19th possibly Lodi, June 6-7 or Memorial Weekend at Shiocton, and then end of August for Long Lake.   The goal is to have many more that that.  Fred will be dissappointed if we do not grow from last year.   I was on the phone with him yesterday.
That Shiocton date should be firmed up within a week.  We are working on Wisconsin shoots to begin as soon as February or March.

I really want to attend one of these, but I need dates, esp. for the spring ones while I'm still doing the pizza job.

I guess the biggest hurdle for these matches if finding a range big enough for all the people. What about yellowstone? I don't know if that would meet your requirements, or if you could hold an official group even there.

I am working hard on getting firm dates as absolutely soon as possible.  The Shiocton shoot should be written in stone this week for June 6th -7th.
There will be several Appleseeds within driving distance occuring on the weekend of April 18th-19th in recognition of April 19th 1775.   There is a very good chance that one will be held in Lodi WI.   We should know in short order for certain.

I am hopeful that we will have a Wisconsin July shoot confirmed this week also.

It would be great to have one in Lodi on April 18, 19.
I would be there for sure.
I will keep on checking the Appleseed website

Have you tried Holmen Rod and Gun?  I'd love to get to one this year, and that would be a great place to do it.  Multiple 50 meter bays would allow the 25m shoots, although the big bore range is only 200 yards last I checked.

What I'd really love is if you could fanagle the local Law Enforcement range, 25m berm and 600m berm.  But that's a pipedream.

I've thought about Holmen too, but with having one right across the river in Winona April 18-19, I haven't looked into it at all yet. They already have a pretty busy schedule with Cowboy Action, Bench Rest, USPSA, & 3-gun shoots. And from what I hear there's a good chance of having club politics to deal with. (No FMJ allowed on the rifle range and no large caliber rifles allowed on the smaller ranges.)

I thought Arcadia might be a better spot. Anybody have connections there? I shot in their "Top-Gun" shoots years ago and seem to recall the rifle range being nice and wide. IIRC it was built by the local Guard/Reserve units. Can anybody verify if it would work out for a 25 meter shoot?

The no FMJ thing doesn't apply to scheduled functions (like 3 gun or Appleseed.)  There is no more 3 gun since no one stepped up to take over.

However, if there's one in Winona, that's fine with me too.

I see Winnequah Gun Club (Lodi) has three Appleseeds scheduled this year:

April 18-19 (listed with Appleseed for registration)
May 16-17 (in Winnequah's calendar but not listed for registration at Appleseed yet)
June 20-21 (in Winnequah's calendar but not listed for registration at Appleseed yet)
