Hi all. I have been looking at getting another AR. Currently I have a RRA 20" standard A2. I am looking at getting a 16" that would mainly be used for plinking and home defense. It would probably see a few hundred rounds during a "typical" year... more with training classes, less with the busyness of life. I was all set to order a RRA Entry Tactical but after doing some reading, I think I may be better off going with a higher quality one (Noveske, LMT, etc.). Finances are an issue and I don't know that I can afford one of those however. But, there is the old saying "Buy once, cry once" when it comes to buying quality over price.
I know many of you have shot or own some of Sully's weapons- Commander, Grail, etc. How do they compare to the higher end manufacturers? I have heard on other forums that the barrels aren't tested as well as some of the others and that there is no parkerizing under the front sight. Is this really an issue or just internet garbage from the ultra cool tactical mall ninja types? Thanks in advance for your input/opinion. |

Well, I'm even more unsure now . Everyone who as ever touched or shot a Grail says its the best thing since sliced bread... hard to argue with that. My practical side tells me to get a RRA. Now if I could win the lottery I could do the ARFCOM thing and get both.

I'll put another vote in for the SLR line. I've got a level 3 commander and it bloody rocks. Course, Sully's Grail rocks even more. I've got a little more than 5K thru my commander so far and have had ZERO failures of any kind. I don't know how that compares to other mfg's out there.
They are pretty pricey, but you get what you pay for. If I had the money, I buy another one of Sully's rifles in a heartbeat. |
| Any of Sully's rifles will serve you well for what you are describing as "want" out of a rifle. I have shot the commanders and I own a Grail. If you want a plinking gun and are not worried about much except the gun will just plain run and run well a commander will serve you well. If you plan on shooting it enough to where you get to where you are looking for the higher end guns then a Grail is the way to go. If you want to try a Grail before plunking down the cash on one you are welcome to try mine out. |
