| All I can say is I can't freaking believe he actually signed a pro gun bill. It's the bill (now law) that says the poweres that be can't take away your guns/ammo in time of emergency. Holy Shit! |

Thanks for posting the update. I thought I heard that on the radio when I was driving home, but my wife called so I didn't hear the whole thing. I checked online to see if any of the news outlets had anything, but all I saw was that he had signed the emergency contraception law. I assumed I had misheard the radio. I'm still not a Doyle fan, but this bill is definitely a step in the right direction for us. Now, if we could get Doyle to sign a CCW bill and the castle doctrine bill (I realize both need to be passed in the legislature first) then I might just decide to turn democrat! |
|
He had no choice...to not sign it would have been suicide for him, and his ilk. It passed with overwhelming majority in both sessions. had it been closer, he would have never signed it. I bet he was muttering all kinds of nasties while he was inking his name. I still don't trust the prick. |
If Doyle didn't want it to pass, it would never have gotten the number of votes it did. Even some of the most anti-gun legislators were allowed to vote for this bill. It lets them snooker the "hunters and sportsmen" in the November elections, and gives Doyle something to use to dupe gun owners when he runs for re-election in 2010. I was really hoping he'd veto this so that we'd have the ammo to use against him. Meanwhile, the Youth Mentoring Act didn't get scheduled for a Senate floor vote, and the Castle Doctrine bill got stuck in Lena Taylor's committee. Do you think Doyle had something to do with those bills never having a chance? |
Those were never meant to go anywhere. Why introduce a bill days before the session ends? So the legislator can trumpet how pro-gun they are, while knowing time will run out and no action will ever be taken. Isn't this the second time the castle doctrine bill was introduced with just days remaining in the session? |

Glenn, the Assembly passed the Castle Doctrine bill last May and it's been sitting in Lena Taylor's committee ever since. The Youth Mentoring bill passed the Assembly a couple of months ago, and passed in Wirch's committee on Wednesday the 4th. That was plenty of time to schedule a Senate floor vote. But you're right, these weren't meant to pass. They just give the fake pro-gun legislators something to say when they're out campaigning. And Doyle can take credit for the Emergency Powers act when he runs again in 2010. I got a letter from my state senator, Tim Carpenter, about his vote for the Emergency Powers Act, telling me how important it is that citizens be able to defend themselves during emergencies. Carpenter has one of the worst gun records in the senate. |
My mistake--thank you for clearing that up. But I'm sorry to hear my cynicism was correct. |
