I drive I94 from Johnson Creek to Cottage Grove each day. The fucking
pot hole are HUGE. I've seen several car on the side of the road with flat
tires, and I know it's from the road conditions. There are some places you
can't change lanes because the road is in piss poor shape. Driving this stretch
of interstate has become a real challenge. Come on fucksticks, fix the road!

In Oshkosh you can apply for a special permit to go ice fishing in a city pothole.

I noticed when I was home over Christmas, the roads seemed to be in much worse shape since this summer.  Down here in IN at school, the roads are also in bad shape.  So much asphalt is eroding away and new potholes are taking shape.  The sad part is the patching they do turns the hole into a speed bump and even then the asphalt erodes out.  I've seen a few potholes that have been patched only to return a week later as the same pothole.

Now what are the laws regarding tracked vehicles?

You should see them here in Milwaukee. Fucking everywhere.

Hit one (while trying to avoid another one and oncoming traffic at the same time) and blew the tire on our brand new Sentra. Damn I was pissed.....

And of course, the next day that very pothole was filled in....but the even bigger ones half a block up at the intersection were still wide open.

I am sure you realize that the weather we have been having is to blame for this. Snow falls, they use salt to melt the ice because not everyone has a decent truck to get around in, the water runs under the asphalt, the next day when the temps fall well below zero said water will freeze. Now grade school science class should have taught you that when water freezes it expands.

It will follow the path of least resistance, now I may be wrong here but moving some asphalt  might be easier than moving the earth, causing the asphalt to push up and crack. Now you have a small hill in the asphalt, what is going to happen the next time a plow comes by? The plow will catch on the humped up cracked asphalt and push it out of the way leaving a pothole.

We are having a problem getting enough salt to put on the roads from all the ice and snow we are getting this year. You might say well heck then sand them, Yea sand stays on the road so well when you have 10,000 vehicles per day driving on it.

So we get a road crew out there to patch up the asphalt, if you patch it and make it perfectly smooth with the surrounding asphalt it will cause a depression catching water and creating a ice spot just waiting for a soccer mom to slid off into the ditch and sue the state for leaving a ice patch. Or you can mound it up a little so when it settles it is even with the road, whoops you just created the exact same scenario that created the pot hole in the first place.

I know pot holes are a pain in the rear end but bitching about them does no good. The powers that be know that they cannot be effectively fixed until spring gets here. You are throwing good money after bad trying to fix something at the wrong time. Personally I think my taxes are high enough I don't want to pay to fix the same piece of road 20 times over the course of the winter.

Sorry I got this exact same bitch from 4 or 5 people at work today.

There are no problems with potholes in my area. The 1 1/2" thick layer of ice on the roads has filled them in nicely.

But theres a few roads in Beloit that are pothole heaven and they have been that way for years (one behind the police dept for example).

I had to drive to Waukesha for an appt today, drove on I94 from Cottage Grove to hwy 45. With this topic in mind, I made mental note of conditions.

Dayum. It really is "potty". Worse was eastbound between CG and Johnson creek. Area around Johnson Creek was pretty good, but thats relatively new construction. Went to hell again after that then started getting better around mile 278 outside of waukesha.
On the way back, it wasn't near as bad, lots more repaired and properly patched areas, but still fairly bad between CG and JC.

One odd think I noticed was that on the white center line and the right side solid white line, was that the road had lots of little potholes where the paint was. It was as if the paint was corrosive. The potholes were rarely between the dashed centerlines. The yellow line on the left hardly had any.

Lake Mills is in pretty good shape.  At least for the very small amount of driving I do.  Main St. - AKA Hwy 89 - is having some issues with growing potholes along the seams but otherwise we have been fortunate.

In Fort Atkinson some streets looked like they did 100 years ago. Just 2 ruts for the wheels to go in. Can't wait for this stuff to melt and see what is buried underneath some of these snow piles.

I drove from Milwaukee to Madison yesterday and the road was in good condition.  There were long streaks of broken asphalt over the lines but the tire portion of the road was generally ok.

I drove back to Milwaukee at 4AM and was warned about potholes from a friend, some small portions before Johnson Creek were bad, but otherwise it was fine.  All you have to do is slow down a bit and you have all the time you need to react.  I would like to thank the State Trooper for not pulling me over when I blew his doors off.  I think he may have been sleeping in one of those turn-around sections.  I've never seen squads parked "in-line" with the wall before.  I saw two that had done that and they did nothing as I blew past them.

On a side note, traveling at night is very smooth and easy.  However, it is damn hard to stay awake.

I drove that stretch of I-94 over the weekend and bitched about it to my family as well. My dad works at the DOT, he said he will personally see to it that those potholes get filled.

Man I haven't been downtown in so long

I live out on Shorewood Hills so I don't get down there much, generally just head off to Madison. Our road is horrible, the county doesn't come out here anymore, it's almost entirely ice. Few clear spots, some ruts, saw some guy trying to get through here in his Porsche yesterday. I'm sure that was fun...

During the last big snow one of the Pages who work at the Library for me was unable to come to work from the West side of the lake because by 3 PM his road had yet to be plowed.  He said there was someone stuck outside his house.
