I am currently doing some shopping for a new ATV (I have not owned one before), and am looking for some help.

I am looking in the Milwaukee area.

I am 6’4, 280, and will be using the ATV for ice fishing, and deer hunting.  I may also throw someone on the back for ice fishing.

I have been out looking at models and here is what I have seen so far:

’07 Suzuki Eiger 400 4X4 automatic:   Out the door - $4,844

’07 Suzuki Vinson 500 4X4 automatic:  Out the door – $6,300

’07 Arctic Cat 700 4x4 automatic:  Out the door $6,500

’07 Kawasaki Brute Force 650:  Out the door $6,650

I am still looking around, anyone have any experience with these models?
Is pricing fair?
Any other suggestions?
I would appreciate any input.

* I also posted this in the GD but was hoping for some local advice!

***UPDATE***

Well I went and did it, bought me a new ATV. Thanks all for the help/ info that i received.
I went with a New '06 Suzuki Vinson 500 4X4 Auto Camo. $5299 out the door

To me I think it is the best of all choices, big enough to have some pep, yet still in my price range.

Now to pick it up and go ice fishing!!!!!!

Suzuki Eigers are good machines.  When I was in the market for an ATV back in 2004, I did a lot of research.

Eigers had very good ratings, bombardiers also along with Yamaha.

Cat and Honda were not getting good ratings at that time.  I ended up buying an bombardier outlander max (2up version) with the 400 cc engine.  It is a GREAT machine.  The wife and I liked it so much, we bought another 1up outlander in 2006.

I've got about 2700 HARD miles on the MAX and it hasn't let me down yet.  I use it for plowing snow (have about 1/4 driveway) and it has NO trouble.  It'll pull 1100 lbs (I've pulled almost 1500 already).  It has an absolutely fanstic ride on the trails.  The 2up version rides smoother than the 1up due to longer wheel base, but its not as manueverable.  Not to big a deal since I don't rockcrawl with it.  I would defintely recommend a 3000 lb winch to go with it.

I HIGHLY recommend looking at the Outlanders if you haven't already.  I think the the Bombardier line is now under CAN-AM name, but still made by Bombardier.  I would recommend looking at the 650 size motor.  While the 400 is good, when I get ready to get the next one, it will be a little bigger.  The 800 will lift the front tires off the ground when you stomp on it.

Good luck

Just don't get it from cedar creek motorsports in cedarburg.  Too many young kids working in back that don't have a clue.  I had parts missing on my brand new ATV.  They gave me a lot of BS when I came back to get my missing parts.

I still had to pay for a setup charged on a new ATV with missing parts.  I finished the rest of the work my self.

Get the biggest motor you can afford!  A 400 will not be enough for a man of your size

We race sno-x on Arctic Cats and they are well built sleds.  A few guys have the Cat ATV in the pits and they love them. Lots of power!!!  I've been to the 'Cat factory a few times in MN and it is just awsome!  How can you beat American Made?

I really like the Polaris and Artic Cat's.  The neighbors up north would beat the crap out of their Polaris ATV's and they always kept running.  I had a Suzuki for about 7 years and it was a piece of crap.  Every year I had to take it in for something.  I took a girlfriend riding and it broke down in the first 5 minutes and we drove an hour to get to my grandparents where it was stored.  If you are going to be putting in any food plots for deer hunting, a 400 is the bare minimum.  Don't forget that you can wheel and deal on some of these things just like when buying a car!
