Almost a year to the day. Last year my car was broken into on election day, broke the drivers side window, tore out the stereo and left a bunch of glass everywhere. Well today they did it again. They busted the passenger side window, reached over moved the drivers seat back to look for the faceplate, couldn't find it. They left. So nothing stolen this time but I still have a broken window thats going to cost about $200 to replace. I had the face plate with me so they couldn't use the head unit in the car without it. It just makes me sick that they still break into the car to see if they can find it. Walking back into the building to get my jacket and head home before it starts to rain i see a cop in the parking lot of the building across the train tracks from us. I walk over to him and tell him what just happened. He came over, took a look at it and is filing a report on my behalf. Thankfully they got the surveillance system working recently. I put a call into the maintiance guy who has access to it and asked him for a copy of the security footage from noon to 130pm for today. I told the officer i would get the footage to him so maybe they can catch the guys or at least get a lead on what kind of car to be on the look out for. The officer also said that he usually takes his lunch brakes in the parking lot across the tracks and that he will now be taking it in our parking lot and checking for busted out car windows every day. I realy hate this city. Thank God the car is a manual transmission, otherwise they may have just stole the car while they were at it. The part of Milwaukee where this happened is rite around KK and Beacher. The Mobile gas station on the corner there was robbed at gun point, at 3pm the other week. Turning into a great part of town. Even better when its dark when you leave the building at 5pm. |

install a car alarm ASAP! you can get one that pages you for under 100$. and its a sinch to install. i put one in one of my friends cars in under an hour. use froogle and search for paging car alarm. there are many brands, but it really does not matter which one you get as i assume you will be parking right outside your apartment/house? without my car alarm like this, i would have gotten broken into atleast 2-3 times in the 2 years i loved downtown while attending UWM. if you need any more info feel free to email me about it. |
| Sorry to hear about your car. In spite of the renaissance going on in that neighborhood, there is still a significant amount of crime. Since the upwardly mobile flooded the area, it became a target rich environment. +1 on the car alarm, especially one that does something more than bleep to an uncaring audience. Good luck. |

i have my car wired so i can have either a internal or external siren, or both go off when the alarm is activated. or i can turn them all off and have it as a silent alarm. also, make sure you get a blinking red light, shit this alone will make most criminals pass by your vehicle as they will think it is wired up with an alarm. i like the blinking red light from radio shack as it is a faster paced blink, and brighter illumination. i never really use my external siren unless im parked in a really scuzzy part of town, i preffer the internal siren, as it wont piss off neighbors and thus have them key my car or something. |
| A buddy of mine used to live on the East side, he removed all valuables from his truck, and left doors unlocked. The signs in the windows were left to that effect "doors unlocked, nothing of value, look for yourself" It worked. He was getting tired of having to replace the busted windows. Or do what I did, move out of the shit hole. |
i would not leave the doors unlocked, what if some asshole decides to think its funny and fuck with your vehicle? say pour liquid dog crap on the seat, throw a dead animal in there, put a crushed egg under your seat.... etc etc also, you will have a bum living in there when its cold and windy ![]() a car alarm is 50-70$ that has paging capabilities. when i lived on the east side most fo the crime happened at night, i have been reading that the criminals have since then gotten more balzy as 7-8am robberies are common place on campus these days. at the very least. install a blinking red led and put it by your review mirror, have it on a switch and battery powered, it will last a long time before oyu need to replace the battery. cheap and effective personaly i would buy a 15 mil candle power light(60-70$) and a paging alarm. the fun of lighting up the scum at 2-5 am is priceless. and they leave your vehicle alone after they realise it is not to be touched. never leave valuables out though, they will just smash and grab it then. |

Someone went through my truck last week but didn't get anything. I left for work around 730 and noticed my driver side door wasn't shut tight. When I got in I noticed the glove box and the center arm rest was open. I never leave anything of value in my truck so I never lock it. I figure if they want to take my empty cig packs there welcome to them! I found out 2 days later that they hit 6 cars the same night including my aunts that lives a couple blocks away. Hers was the same thing, door, glove box and arm rest all left open. The only difference was her truck was in the garage and my truck was outside. They went in through a service door that was left open. I sure would like to find these shit bags!!! Stang BTW I live on the west side of G.B. in a real nice neighborhood. It can happen anywhere! |

Few years ago when I owned a minivan, I left it unlocked. One morning I went in and found the glove compartment had been rifled through. The only thing missing was the owners manual ![]() They completely missed the GPS in the center compartment. That was the only really valuable thing in it. I don't think they even looked anywhere else. |
