In WI for a non-resident do you have to attend a WI Hunter Safety Class?

Thanks, we have some property up north and plan to hunt it the first time in about 8 years... I know the license is high, even which sucks even if you own land you are still non-resident...

Yes.   If you were born January 1, 1973 or later, you need to have a certificate or you can not get a non-resident or resident license.

Well since, let's just say I was born before that (1964) then I don't need it correct?

P.S.

If someone was born after 1973 that means they need a WI hunter safety or any state?

any state will work as long as you have some proof (hunters safety card) i took hunters safety in S.D., and they ask for it every year

So here is my question.

WI says born before 1973...I don't need it

IL says

Anyone born on or after January 1, 1980 may not be issued a hunting license unless:

*they present a valid Hunter Education Certificate of Competency issued by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Division of Education.

....

So if someone from IL was born after 173 but before 1980 I wonder where they stand? I would ASSUME the WI rule would apply

follow the state your hunting in laws.  IL has no control over WI.

Yup...   If you are from Wisconsin born in 1976, you may purchase a IL non-resident license without HS.  If you are from Il born in 1976, you can not buy a WI non-resident license without  HS.

Hunter safety is something everyone should take regardless of age. Just a good idea to refresh up on safety.

Is there a limit on magazine capacity? I can't seem to find it in the documents on the DNR site but I am going to assume 5 rounds??

Assume nothing. We have no magazine capacity limits. You could hunt with a bata mag in the gun if you wanted to.

Wow...I guess I learned what happens when you assume....

Another question as I am about to buy my license.

With my non-resident license I am allowed one buck and one antlerless correct...can I purchase additional privileges?

I see I can purchase a Antlerless Herd Control Tag

which states

A Herd Control deer carcass tag allows the holder of any valid deer hunting license (gun or archery) to harvest an additional antlerless deer in any herd control or earn-a-buck deer management unit. Customers must possess a valid deer hunting license in order to purchase a herd control permit.

But I am not in a herd control area (Iron County) so since this is my first time I want to make sure I do things right...

Best bet is to call the DNR station in the unit you are gonna be hunting in.
