What is the status? Did the House vote it down or are you going to pony up $511/month extra for "free" healthcare.

When I think about solcialized health care, I immediatley think of Public housing and public transportation.

I don't think I want my health records and information in the hands of the guy who tranferred over from the DOT

Just to prove how stupid it is someone should propose a bill called Feed Wisconsin.

It make just as much sense as government health care. Everyone pays a 10% tax out of their check and you can just walk into any store and grab food for free.

Think of the children and how much money we could all save.

Free food? That would be awesome....BUT!

Think of every sleazeball that would slink into this state if everything was free. I would hope I could sell my house quick before the bottom drops out of the WI housing market.

It sucks to be uninsured, it sucks even more to be uninsured and sick. So fuck me that's my problem.

It's not like there isn't enough "corporate welfare" in WI, plenty of fat cats lining up at the feed trough.

Here is what was originally planned by Doyle. After looking at what was proposed, I don't think there is anyone left that he didn't try to tax. (This is from My Senator's website. There are many people considering leaving WI if this sort of taxation happens, I am one of about 5 where I work that actually know this is going on, and are beginning to consider alternatives.)

Capitol Connection
An Unacceptable Budget Plan

The budget package that I was asked to vote on proposed to increase state government spending by an unbelievable 23 percent over the next two years. Yes, 23 percent! To cover this out-of-control government spending spree, taxes on the hard-working citizens of our state will be increased by almost $10 billion. This is unbelievable especially when you consider that the average income of Wisconsin’s hard working families is growing at a pace of only two percent annually – a rate of growth well below the national average.

Following is a list of tax increases contained within Governor Doyle’s budget proposal along with the amount of revenue each tax is expected to generate for the state:

• Property tax increase - $1.2 billion;

• Cigarette tax increase - $550 million;

• Tax on other tobacco products - $39 million;

• A new "Oil company" tax (gas tax increase) - $272 million;

• Automobile registration fee increase from $55 to $75 - $167 million;

• Doubling of the real estate transfer tax - $141 million;

• A new tax on health care providers - $418 million;

• $52 per month increase in the nursing home bed tax - $33 million;

• University of Wisconsin tuition increase - $52 million;

• Tipping fee increase – garbage tax - $42 million;

• Driver license fee increase - $22 million;

• Tax-filing tax on businesses that file their taxes manually - $5.5 million;

• A new E-Greeting Card and iPod tax - $6.3 million;

• Tourism tax of $13 on rental cars in Southeast Wisconsin - Unknown fiscal impact.

In addition the Senate Democrats inserted the following tax increases into their amended version of the budget:

• A new Payroll tax to fund universal health care program - $15.2 billion

• Combined reporting tax on businesses - $130 million;

• Heavy truck registration fee increase - $26 million;

• Tax increase on investment companies and real estate investment trusts - $3 million;

• Eliminate the tax exemption for ATM machines - $2 million;

• Extend monthly cell phone 911 tax – Unknown fiscal impact

Hey, I did my part!  My Senator used to be a Doyle flunky, and he is history. (This was after the WI Anti-terrorism bill that Doyle's people wrote and gave my ex-Senator to push through. But what it really was was anti-gun. It reclassified ammo as explosives, and guns as destructive devices. The only guns (or ammo) that was legal was ammo that could be used ONLY in single shot rifles. If it could be used in any other kind (semi-auto, bolt, lever or pump) it was illegal. When he got called on it (by many, including me, I called and talked to him personally) he blamed Sen. Dave Zein for basically everything, and he sounded just like Tom Daschle.

What needs to happen is for Sheboygan to get rid of Terry Van Akkeron, and for more of the other cities to wake up and realize how bad their mayors/Senators/Reps are changing things, and not for the better.
I was in Green Bay for the Packer scrimmage on Saturday, and drove down Mason Street from the west side of town all the way out to I-43, and all I could think was "This is starting to look like a slum." The yards and houses needed a lot of work, and it was never that bad in those areas before. I grew up in Green Bay, graduated from high school there, and if it wasn't for my Packer tickets and parents, I would probably not go there more than a few times a year. I hate to think this way, but I think I may have to make a decision before too many more years have passed. I really don't want to move out of state (and give up my tickets) but if it keeps getting more liberal, I think it will be time to get while the getting is good.  (As for the Packer tickets, I REALLY don't want to give them up. My Dad was at the Ice Bowl, and has gone every season since. My Grandpa used to be able to get on the field back when Curly Lambeau was coach, so we have been going for many, many years. But something is gonna have to give, and I'm not sure what that is going to be. At least not yet)

For everyone reading this, CALL YOUR Senatorand Representative soon, if not Today. They must know you strongly oppose this abomination that is trying to be slipped past us.  For all those who do nothing: I hope you get what you deserve, 'cause you suck!

Well, I live in Green Bay, very near the slum that you refered too ( 41 + mason st  area )   of course, i live back there , behind the old Van Boxtel Ford, so those are nice ranch style homes, but i agree the bad element is moving in, lots of less than desirables...so something has to happen.

Actually, the part of Mason Street I was talking about was on the east side of town. Most from where the old Martin Hardware store was, continuing east until you get to Hoffer's Glass. It hasn't been the ritziest of neighborhoods for many years now, but it just seemed that it has gotten worse just recently. The houses need work (now more than ever), the yards are unkempt, stuff piled on many porches, and lots of those houses for sale.  I guess many people see what is coming and are looking to get out while they can still get a decent price for their house/apartment/property.

But I'm kinda torn. On one hand, if something is going to happen, I want it to be now (or soon) so that I can have a hand in setting things right, but I don't want my parents (or other family members) to have to go through whatever happens. But if it happens later, I won't be of much use (because of my age), while my parents might miss it completely, but my youngest neices will have to go through whatever happens.

But it may not come to that. If taxes keep going up, I will have to leave Wisconsin and I won't be here for whatever goes down. (But I also won't be able to help my family, at least not my parents and siblings, along with any neices and nephews)  But maybe it won't come to that. I hope that people pull their head out of their butt before it gets that bad.

My fiance is from Green Bay and her grandmothers still live there. They and her are saying that the town is going in the shitter. Too many people moving in that don't care and want a hand-out or want to make the city "their way." We won't be moving back to WI until that place turns around, and I am afraid that will be never.

There are only three things keeping me in WI:
#1 Family (Parents and a sister and her family. Brother in law and two adorable neices)
#2 Packer Tickets (We have had tickets in the family since Curly Lambeau was coach)
#3 My job

If those first two go away, I'm gone!  However, if taxes and crime keep going up, those first two won't matter. But I will try to get family to move out of WI to somewhere decent and hopefully close to wherever I end up. (But I will miss going to the games)
