Ok I need to rant a little. For years and years I have been hunting deer at Ft. McCoy. I love hunting there 55,000 huntable acres and only 1500 permits on average given out for the season. Life is genearlly good there. Not a lot of people for a large cross section of hunting. I have never failed to get a permit for my group. 2 years ago I forgot to mail in my apps until a month after the start date for permit mailing. We got turned down that year because the quota was filled. We were dissapointed. I figured my failure to remember was the cause of the problem. I have mail in apps late in previous years and still got permits. hmmm..... Anyway with this in mind I figured I'm not going to do that again! I got everything ready 3 weeks a head of time. All the apps, payment, money order, etc. All ready and sitting in a sealed envelope. I even put post it notes all over my hose to remind me to go to the post office and mail it. The day comes March 26th I toddle my ass to the post office at 9am and have the lady post mark it the 26th and she tells me it will be out same day. Great! I did the deed now to continue planning for the big trip. I call it a trip because this is like a vacation for me and the wife. This year we are bringing my nephew again and our friend Brad. Brad has never hunted before so this was going to be his first time. He is all geeked up to go. Fast forward to Saturday. I go to the mailbox and low and behold what do I find? A envelope with the return address of Ft McCoy permit Sales. At this point I am praying that it is our permits, but in the back of my mind knowing it was not. A guy can hope, right? I open the envelope and sure enough our apps and money order returned to us stating "The quota for gun deer has been filled." They also returned the envelope I sent and it had a received stamp of MARCH 28 2007!!! Two flipping days and all the permits are gone. What Bull shit! I don't know how to make it get there any faster. You cannot hand deliver it according to the rules. I mean shit, maybe next year I drive up to Tohma nad mail the sob at the post office there certainly the those people can get the damn thing 15 miles in under 2 days! Well time to find another place to hunt again. Now I can have all of the people here that got permits at Ft McCoy gloat. Go ahead I dare you. Rant off.] |
