I traded a Taurus pistol for a 1911 laser grip to a guy in NC. UPS won't take any firearms being mailed to a non-business address. Does taking it apart into 2 pieces into 2 boxes make it legal?

If clerk asks whats in box (not torn apart) and I say it's a box of candy or a Cabelas catalog, and they have a metal detector under the counter, have I committed a crime?

Christ, this state is getting as bad as England or Canada or Russia.

Any suggestions, from one anonymous person to another?

Thanks for nothing!

You should be able to send it to any FFL.

what you are proposing is bad juju. a receiver alone is the firearm. you have to ship it to his ffl no matter what unless he is a wisconsin resident and you do a face to face sale period. if you get caught off to club fed senorita.

You have to send it to an FFL near him, via UPS or FedEx, etc. No USPS unless you hold a FFL.

IF he's the one wanting you to ship directly to him, you better "remind" him, that doing so is a felony, and you'll only ship to his FFL dealer once you've verified the FFL (get a copy of his dealer's FFL, or FFL license numbers and verify with the ATF instacheck).

RE: Thanks for nothing
All the above are trying to help you avoid commiting a felony.  "One anonymous person to another"?  Nobody here is completely anonymous, your IP can be tracked, and such.  Maybe you think it's all fun and games, but if you get tagged with sending directly to him, it's not his ass that's gonna burn, it's yours.  Besides, it won't cost you any more to ship to his dealer than to him.

If you're trying to avoid an FFL at his end, he's probably a felon.  Or it's an ATF sting.  Either way, when it's tracked back to you, g'bye.

Why people are willing to commit a felony over a lousy $25 transfer fee astonishes me.  If you're thinking about doing this, reconsider.

It has nothing to do with the state of wisconsin....this is a federal law.

*Go ahead and send it, then let us know how that worked out for you.
*Following my advice is not only retarded, but may cause you to become a convicted felon and spend some time behind bars.

ETA  I didn't see your "Thanks for nothing" comment.  In that case I retract my original, worthwhile advice.

How's this:

You and I aren't anonymous to each other, so this is advice from friend to friend:

Don't risk the consequences of shipping to an individual.

IF you have a copy of their FFL's paperwork, send it via UPS, FedEx, DHL, whatever (Overnight shipping will be required).  If they won't give you the FFL, send their money back, as the cost of prison time is worth way more than the gun.

Since when did you get friends and why was I not told so that I know who to avoid in the future?
