I'm making a trip up to see my friend on Madeline Island in Wisconsin this upcoming week.  I'm planning on bringing a couple guns, but being a blue state, I'd have to assume it's not that simple... can someone give me a real quick overview of how to go about this road trip legally?
I just planned on tossing the guns in the trunk (unloaded of course), ammo in the passenger compartment, just like in Ohio.  Is it that simple?  Somewhere I read a thread that made me think otherwise.

Any quick tips would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, I suck.  Nevermind, I found what I was looking for a few posts down.
Not within reach, unloaded.  I was just making sure it wasn't some kind of Illinois, where I have to have the thing registered, carrying cards, "evil gun owner" tatoo on forhead, etc...

I think your laws are more restrictive in MI.  Not sure if you have CCW or not, that might be the exception.

Make sure if you bring pistols you have them in a case not a holster,
