This question may have already been asked but anyone know of some ranges is south east WI or maybe just plain southern WI that allow the 50 BMG to be fired at?

Bristol Range allows .50 BMG.  Problem is that they only have a 200 yards range.

Don't forget to make sure you're not the only guy there under 25, who doesn't have blond hair and blue eyes.  Last time I went, and last time I'll ever go, the guys in charge played 20 questions with me, saying that I need to pay to use the range. Afte I explained that I already had ( I was a member too) paid my daily fee, they decided that I didn't, and wanted my ID to match up on the registration sheet.  It was there, written plain as day.  But I guess I'm not a "good ole boy", so they decided that maybe I don't belong there.  God knows what would have happened if I was darker skinned.

I used to be a range officer at Bristol.  I quit because of all of the old farts I had to work with and put up with.  Also I hated it when the Orange Hord showed up in the fall.  I never agreed with the single shot rule, but understood why when a guy let off 20 rounds on fullauto and blew the shit out of the targets and the roof.  They do need new leadership there and better range officers.

Again, I'm not saying it the best place, but if there isn't any other place it's better than nothing.

That's why I tell people about it.  They may love it.   Will I ever go there again?  Definately not, but my bad expereince is mine.

It seems that everyone I talk to has had a negative experience there.  I belong to Racine Co. Line and they go out to 600 yards and the only thing past the berm is Lake Michigan and they won't let us shoot .50 BMG.  If there is anyplace in WI to shoot 50, this is the place.  Something about the Army Corps of Engineers not allowing it but that always sounded like some bad excuse to me.  Maybe I should probe more and find out who I can appeal this alleged decision to.

From what I understand, RCLRC has a no .50 policy because of the "berm erosion" it would cause.  Hey, at least we're allowed to shoot steel again.

Taz, I'm sure after all the berm issues are taken care of they will once again allow it. I know there needs to be some work done ona couple of the berms, I don't know xactly what work, but there is some work needed on them. It would be nice to be able to pop off a .50 there for sure.

Will we could always shoot steel, the problem was people were bringing it out and puting it on the berm and leaving it there. As long as it went home with you at the end of your shooting it was always ok.  THere was some confusion on the issue for a little bit though and thats where people got the idea we couldn't shoot steel anymore.

OK, but can I shoot my magic tracers that take a 90 degreee left turn after 100 yards?

Not tracers.

But ya know I had some 7.62x39 that seemed to be able to do that last year durring the wimps and idiots match. Seems the pits on the 600 yard range were complaining of shrapnel from over on the 100. Was probably somone shooting the match shooting low and hitting the berm but they still sent someone over to say something to us. We were just like um yah ok......

We can still shoot at steel plates, they just can't be up on the berm.  They have to be on the ground and no farther past the 100yard area.  Just take the plate home with you and it will never be an issue.  The non tracer thing annoyes me also.  The only time I ever shot tracers there was at the 500 or the 600 range and a day after a good rain as to not ignite the berm.  Some idiot securtiy guard over at WE thought tracers were coming over the north berm at em.  What he saw was the lit tracer nailing the berm and sailing back into the air.  They should be lucky they can't see the travel of non tracer rounds because they would probably crap their pants.

Yeah, I know.  Some deputies were probably goofing off, but somehow it was those magic tracers that make left turns in the air.
