[ARCHIVED THREAD] - WI Buck Story

A friend passed this e-mail on to me - I have no further information and no idea about it's veracity, but I found it interesting:

Subject: FW: Check this BUCK story out!

Thankfully there is one Deputy out there in Columbus, WI who carries a REAL
gun!

This happened a few nights ago outside the town of Columbus. The guy that
took the pictures is a Dane County deputy. Hi. I found these two bucks
locked up around midnight last night. At first I thought the smaller one
was dead as it was down and other one was standing. At times the bigger one
would toss the smaller one around like a rag doll. Amazing strength. I
found the smaller one was very much alive and at times would get up and try
to toss the big one around. Obviously if we didn't do something they both
were going to die.

When both were on the ground I had a good look at the smaller bucks antler
that was locked with the big one. (only one rack of each were locked) I had
an opportunity to try to shoot the rack and not hit either buck and my .45
hit home. The antler picture is of the one I shot off and it's laying on
the warden's hood. After the shot, both bucks bolted in opposite
directions. I couldn't believe they were able to run like that as exhausted
as they were. What a cool night.

If you look REALLY closely at the bottom right corner of the pictures, they are dated 09/24/03. But like I said, these were passed along to me through no-telling-how-many other people - I don't know anything more than what was in the e-mail above.

I thought it was an interesting story and thought that maybe someone here might know more about it or know the officer(s) involved by chance...

Columbus is in Columbia County, not Dane.

I can think of only one Dane Deputy that works over in that area, either on 3-11 or 11-7 that carries a .45, and I think he would've told me about that.

I think there is a story here, but not the one told.
