State Rep. Dan Pabon was arrested Thursday night on suspicion of driving under the influence in downtown Denver, police said.
Pabon sponsored a bill that mandates those convicted of drunken driving to appear before a DUI victim impact panel. The bill has been signed into law by Hickenlooper and takes effect on July 1. In his newsletter to supporters last month, Pabon wrote, "This bill is aimed at reducing drunk driving by increasing opportunities for defendants to appear before a victim impact panel as part of their sentences. Studies show that this type of restorative justice reduces recidivism." |

"He was released to a "sober person," the affidavit said." How do you think us peasants would have been treated? HANG HIM!! Not necessarily. In Denver, someone with good ID and no other reasons to be jailed is probably going to be pushed out the door after the arrest, to a responsible sober adult if one can be found and the drunk tank near DG otherwise. The part of the story that I think is funny is the missing party affiliation. I'll give you a chance to guess and take Republican, Green, Libertarian, Reform, American Constitution, and Socialist Worker parties off of the table. Maybe the newsies didn't want to embarrass the rest of the Prohibition Party? |

Depends on where you are, the agency contacting you policies and how full the jail happens to be. In the 90's the jail in Alamosa would stop accepting people unless it was a felony, violent misdemeanor or warrant when their population hit around 48 (the jail was built to house 53 and three of those beds were holding cells and 4 were female only pods). I also know several agencies who do releases to sober parties as a policy. If the person is cooperative and the sober party is over 21 and willing to sign a waiver. |

The Denver Democrat was stopped about 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Glenarm Place and West Colfax Avenue, according to investigators. Right outside the titty bars, too. |

As long as it's your first DUI you get released to a sober adult. Most jurisdictions ate moving to catch and release when it comes to DUIs to free up room for felony and mandatory arrest offenders. Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions |
