Ok maybe I am a little slow and just figured this out but I really haven't heard or read any discussion on this.
Now that all transfers need to go though a FFL they just outlawed anybody under 21 owning a handgun...unless it is your immediate family. Is that correct? I thought the law in Colorado was that you could own a handgun when you are 18 but because federal law states 21 you had to do a private transfer. Am I incorrect and read the law wrong before or did these pricks slip this one by. FWIW, I knew about the new laws but never considered that part of it. If I sound like an idiot sorry about that

| Now I could be wrong, but I was under the assumption that transfers and purchases from an FFL are different. Say you purchase a handgun from an FFL its treated as the FFL (owner of firearm) is selling it and therefore you must be 21. On the other hand a transfer is only facilitating a service of the FFL , background check, and the FFL is not actually taking possession or selling anything, just seeing if everything is Kosher. Therefore you can be under 21 for a transfer. You are not purchasing the gun from the FFL, which is why I think it skirts the Federal 21 age limit for handguns law. |

When the 4473 is called in it's Hand Gun, Long Gun or Other. Telling them hand gun, then CO DL info, confirms they are not able to purchase through CBI. As CBI cannot give approval for under 21 hand gun purchase. Of course the easiest way to find out is call CBI. Don't forget Name, date, time of call. |
