A buddy of mine has a potential job offer in Grand Junction. He doesnt seem to know shit about SW Colorado so I thought I'd ask how GJ is? Ive driven through it a couple times and worked in Steamboat for a few months, but havent spent any time in GJ myself. Is GJ a decent place overall or are there scummy high crime parts best to avoid? I realize that GJ is 50K population and I dont expect much crime, but meth has a funny way of turning small towns in shit holes
Whats the best way to find a place to rent ? Know of any decent , low cost RV parks he could park a trailer? Is there a better place to live outside GJ thats a reasonable driving distance (say 20 mins) ? Any gunshops worth mentioning? |

I'd venture to say the GJ is the most affordable area in Colorado with access to recreation. There might be better areas(Delta, Montrose) but our job market/economy is better. The meth problem seems to have been quelled quite a bit by the resources spent by the county and sheriffs office along with the demise of the O&G industry from here. Best way to find a place to rent is CL, GJsentinel, or the Nickads. IM if you are serious about a RV spot. I have a friend that owns a RV park. I personally wouldn't go much further than Palisade to the east, and Fruita to the west, and even Fruita seems like it could get annoying to drive from with little advantages. Gun shops? Cabelas to look, and when you are ready to buy, A Pawn. Every gun is $10 over cost. When in town, I'll offer the free tour of the place if you want. Good luck. GJ is a pretty awesome place to live. |
