Gent's,
Does anybody know of a good place? Thanks in advance! |
| I always thought the term," prairie dog hunting" was some what misleading, "prairie dog shooting" is more accurate, I mean, I've never had to sneak up on one to kill it, more like I search for a rise in the ground where the critters are know to exist and just start shooting away. Out here on the west side of the state, if you search a little bit, you will find some towns but not like I've seen over there on the front range, damn I'd like to get into some of those places, I'd bring at least 4 guns. Maybe put an add in some rural paper out there, include in the add that you will be willing to share the meat. |

Most of the public lands get shot up pretty quick and they get very wary. Private is your best bet. Best advise I can give you is to go east and start knocking on doors. Be polite and you will probably get some positive responses. Personally I have permission on three properties that total about 300 acres of prairie dogs. But my two sons, myself, and a friend or two is about all they can handle.
We call it "prairie dog shooting" also. |

Quoted: Oh, I expect nothing less!!!Quoted: I wish Boulder was the correct answer. ![]() But really, no clue but I'm interested. Hey don't be shooting at me! I'll shoot back! My point was that they are 'protected' in Boulder. As you know they are everywhere! Hell, there's a lot of places you could get them from your car with a handgun. ![]() Employee of mine ran over 2 on his bike ride to work inside of a year. ![]() |

Quoted: Quoted: Gent's, Does anybody know of a good place? Thanks in advance! What part of the state are you in? The best way to go is start asking ranchers and farmers if they need varmint removal. Thats how I get my access....... This is great advice. I would also add to look presentable, expect people to say no, and leave the rifle in the truck. As mentioned above, the private land gets shot up quickly by people with the 'in' or land owners. Friend has access to 40 acres east of 287. I have gone goose hunting on this property. We are free to shoot any dogs we see, but I have never seen any. Property owner pretty much hammers all of them. |
