It will be 2 weeks on Friday, that we have lived in Craig. We made the move from South Carolina. So far so good, the locals have been very kind and receptive, we really like it.
Tomorrow are belongings from the movers arrive, we have been sleeping on an air mattress, not the best for the back. During the past few weeks, we have hiked and swam our Shepherds in the Yampa, very nice. I have already encountered snakes, coyote and black bear. Since I am now officially a resident, got my DL, I will go apply for my ccw. I started to open carry on my hikes after the wild life encounters. The bear was at a great distance, the coyotes were closer. The pack of coyotes was only 3, they didn't send a messenger to draw out my dogs, they scattered after the Shepherds barked. Murdochs is a really cool place, lots of boots and winter wear. The town and surrounding area is really pet friendly, I can do a lot of off lead hiking. Still some areas were I can't, but enough to satisfy. We talked about maybe (future) moving up or towards Steamboat Springs, but Craig is not bad (especially for hikes, dogs and mellow attitude). I think living in Bennington,VT helped me get use to the small town life. I really love Colorado, never want to leave. I have a job interview at a local vets office, hoping to land a job. |

Congrats! Hope you enjoy "Craig America", Look around the state if you can before it gets cold. I live in (and grew up in) Grand Junction and get to Meeker a lot for work. I have seen most of the country except the deep south and the northwest, other places are pretty but no where else has so much variety so close. Eastern Utah is not bad either.
A big loop road trip would be Craig - Dinosaur - Rangley - Junction - Glenwood - Wolcott - Steamboat - Craig. Grand Junction is probably main option for big box stores and shopping. I hope you have a good four wheel drive, if so, the options go way up. For what its worth, there are alternate names for almost all of the western slope towns you'll pass through, most not fit for mixed company. |

Good Vet in town on the east side. Breds Champ Labs. We have one..what a bird dog. IF you ever drive out towards Maybell,CO., go south to try this place. It's on the honor system. We like MOffat and the surrounding counties. Still good hunting. http://www.juniperhotsprings.com/ |
