| I heard they opened a "gun" section in the PX. True, not true...if true then how is the selection and value? Do they custom order? |
| True- but not at the PX- the Mini Mall in the furniture shop. Yes, they have a good inventory! Glock mag's galore. M1A's to AK's. DD lower parts kits- Aimpoint's, Eotech's, Crimson Trace. Finally- the gun shop I have been waiting for! TAX FREE! I hope to find a Trijicon ACOG in there someday! |
The Air Force, in a drastic money saving move , won't issue DoD stickers. As a retiree, how much azzpain do I have to go though to get on post and gaze upon this motherlode?? Any particular gate, some kind of temporary vehicle pass, body cavity search that would make TSA green with envy, etc??

I wanna say my step-father got his here at Carsonwhile he was visiting me and he's retired AF. Just pull into the parking lot on the right and go into the building there, fill out some paperwork and take a number. ANyways, if they won't give you one you can still come through the gate if you go through the inspection lane. Have your ID, insurance and vehicle registration ready and I'm sure you can get through. And they will search your car if you don't have your DoD sticker. If you do have your sticker, there's still a chance they will search your car. |
| When I was at Ft. Hood I saw a PS90, Desert Eagle, and of course a Bushmaster .50 BMG. When I heard about the shootings thats the first place I thought the weapons were bought. I was suprised to find out later they were bought at Guns Galore which rips new PVT's off and they act like they know their shit when they don't. I overheard them tell a PFC that a .45 1911 could blow arms off people and shit like that. They also had shitty customer service and hated being proven wrong. Ok I'm with the rant. How long has the mini mall been selling guns, I kept hearing about it but I was told it was at the PX not the mini-mall. Is the ammo decently priced? |
| They have been selling weapons and ammo at the Mini Mall since mid November. Great selection on shotguns, Ruger piston AR's, a few M&P 15-22's and about 3 different M1A's. Glock and S&W pistols- Springfield's as well. It is worth checking out. Oh yeah- and the ammo! Did I mention TAX FREE? |

Yes they will order for you. In fact they just called me back on a price quote on a Knights SR25 EMC. I was at work and didn't answer so I'm interested what they'll have to say. CMS they had this in alaska as well. Had a soldier who tried to buy a barrett said he was financing it off of his star card. I ended up getting called into 1sgt's office asking why the hell the PX is calling him about a 50 cal rifle sitting in the PX that the soldier couldn't get financed for. Kid basically had enough credit to pay the down payment required to get the rifle there then wasn't able to pay the rest. What an idiot. The one in anchorage rarely ever had decent ammo deals always better at ammo king or other places off post. |

Would those serving in the COARNG be able to purchase there? My son is an E5 and goes to Carson frequently for training and other fun & games. Hmmm ... AF Guard and Reserve can go to the BX/commissary anytime they want now. Don't know why your son wouldn't be able to make a purchase ... unless there's a restriction on firearms. Wouldn't hurt to ask ... what's the worst they could tell him ... "no"? |

I'll pass it on, thanks, he can ask next time he's there. |

Much easier than Carson. Plus, as an Air Force retiree, I prefer having the Air Force sticker on my vehicles. |

Can you only purchase if you are active military or can you purchase if you are retired military? My father was an E7 in the army, that is why I ask. I tried to join the military and they would not let me Anyone with a DoD ID card may purchase. Active Duty, retired, dependant, Guard/Reserve. |

The Air Force, in a drastic money saving move , won't issue DoD stickers. Actually, it was a anti terrorism measure & all the services were going to do away with the DD Form 2220 but for some reason the Army went back to them & now the AF will be going back to issuing them in 2011. Guess Army officers wives wanted to be saluted at the gate again and to ID vehicles as belonging to military members. The 2220 was originally designed to ensure that military members had insurance, met all local and federal licensing requirements & that the vehicles were registered to a military member and that officers were noticed and got a salute. Outside of localized tracking you could never cross check between bases or branches of service. Now you will have both the 2220 on your vehicles and the biometric id card that the gate guards will scan prior to allowing you entry. It's rather stupid going back to them and one more hoop you have to jump through that does not increase security at all. |
