Sorry if this is a repeat post, couldn't find anything else on here.
I am trying to do some hog hunting out here in Colorado, but not sure where they are at. Anyone know of some places that I might be able to try? |

They are considered "fair game", in fact they are considered "invasive species" as someone already posted. That means there is no rules, shoot on site anytime you want and the DOW will praise you for it. The DOW doesnt' want them in the state, but can't do much cause most are located on private property in the SE part of the state and the property owners won't let the state go in and eradicate them. However, the property owners have realized the value of the hogs and let hunters shoot them for trespass fees. Search the DOW site, there are several press releases about hogs, the articles also identify or narrow down potential areas to hunt.
If you drive around and ask property owners, you may be able to find some. Good luck |

Ok. I will check out the website and try to run down there sometime and just ask around. Maybe I can find a couple hogs.
I think they should encourage the killing of the hogs if they are truly worried about the land. I can't see the hogs living in the mountains much, but out east they could turn into a big problem. |

On the Colorado DOW site
ARTICLE II - LICENSE TYPES AND REQUIREMENTS #001 - Hunt Codes #002 - License Requirements L. Feral Hogs 1. Feral hogs are hereby declared to be detrimental to Colorado’s wildlife and habitat. Feral hogs may be seized, captured or destroyed by the Division of Wildlife or its authorized agents whenever and wherever found. 2. No license is required for a person to hunt or take feral hogs. However, commercial hunting or taking of feral hogs is prohibited. No person shall profit or attempt to profit from the hunting or taking of feral hogs in Colorado. 3. No person shall release species or hybrids of species in the families Suidae or Tayassuidae in Colorado for the purpose of allowing them to run at large or otherwise facilitating the distribution or abundance of feral hogs in Colorado. We gotta find em now! |

Here is a good question: Can you legally use .223 on hogs? Considering there are no rules related to them (except see above post) because they are not listed as a game species, you can use any method of take (including shooting with a .223). However, it sounds like the private property owners who have been charging hunters to take hogs is a no-no. As mentioned they are considered a "detrimental species" and the DOW wants to eradicate them. |
