I went to get my new CCW since it was going to expire in August. I thought I would take care of it early, right? Guess you can't do that in Colorado, or Jefferson County. They say if I apply early, they will complete the paperwork but you won't be able to use the new card until August.

So you would have to wait a couple months after you turn in your current CHL. That doesn't seem right, I am sure driver's licenses don't work that way.

Im confused.

Just do the paperwork and get the new card.  Use the old one until it expires, destroy it or turn it in and start using the new one?

I already turned in the paperwork & was ready to trade in my old card but they told me the new card wouldn't be legal until August.

I will ask the sheriff's department tomrrow if I can just wait to pick up my new card in August.

I actually just printed out the renewal form this morning and the sheriff's website (BoCo) doesn't say anything about turning in the old cards, just that renewal cards should be rec'd 60-90 days after turning in the paperwork and money orders.

I had no problem renewing mine a year early when I moved from Park County to Jefferson County. I don't see why there would be any difference between changing counties or just renewing early it's still Colorado. My biggest rant is the consistency of the people who issue them knowing the actual laws and rules that apply.
