The company that I am with here in Cheyenne, WY has a opening in Grand Junction that I am thinking about taking.  I would gain about 10K by doing this.  How is crime in the area?  How are the schools?  How is the Sheriff about signing Class III forms?  How about CCW laws?  How are rental properties and home prices?

Expensive and over-valued real estate.  Check the cost of living comparisons.  GF lived there and I visited a lot.  Didn't care for it much compared to the front range.  Crime seemed low.  Don't know answers to the rest of the questions.  Good motorcycle roads in the area.  Isolated otherwise.

I've been doing a ton of HW regarding GJ.  Here's what I can give you:

Crime is low.  I'd bet considerbly lower than the front range.

Schools are good, from what I've heard from my friend that lives out there.

I don't know anything about Class III, but the place is ultra conservative.

CCW...Tons of people.  My G/F and I were walking around main st, and saw a IDPA flyer in an attorny's office.  He came outside and invited us inside.  He showed mehis Kimber Ultra CDP II sitting on his desk.  He also spent about an hour telling us about the city.  I have yet to meet some one that has either lived or live in GJ that does not like it.

Housing market is overvalued, but I see signs of correction.  I would say rent for about 6 mos, then look to buy.

Crime - non existent.

Schools - No information.

Sheriff - Colorado is a "shall issue" state regarding CCW, and, on a geographic whole, is very conservative.

CCW laws - Extremely liberal.  Open carry is legal anywhere in the state, save Denver.

Home prices - somewhat overvalued.

However, night life and social gatherings are slim to none in this region of the country.  You had best enjoy the great outdoors.  Moab, UT is a couple hours away and one of the best mountain biking locales in the world.  Hiking opportunities are endless.  Great place to get back to nature.

I-70 will be your lifeline to the world.  Driving east during the winter months can become deadly very quickly.  Lots of rock slides and avalanches, not to mention the weather conditions that can shut the whole thing down for days at a time.

I see that as a good thing :)

Still not sure what I am going to do.  I did some calculating tonight and my salary after a little OT here and there for the year ends up being about 6k less then what they are offering to go to GJ.  The cool thing is the job involves lots of travel but puts me home at night.  The bad thing is 70 in the winter like you said.

You really have no need to go to Denver.  GJ has everything that a big city has.  If you want to meet some chicks in the winter, goto Vail
