Ok folks, I appreciate all of the help upto this point. I am bringing my family down at the end of the month for a vacation. My wife is born and bred Alaskan as is my daughter. We dont have fireflies in Alaska and neither have ever seen a firefly, nor will they ever in Alaska. What are the odds of them being able to see fireflies? I am willing to drive to make it happen Thanks Chris |

The can be seen South of Colorado Springs. The Fountain Creek Nature Center. I'm not sure on the times of day, or times of year, but we saw them there last year on a nature hike. Hi Sung Good to see you Any advice you can offer, I would be glad to have My wife and 3 yo daughter will be joining me in CO from 5/25 (evening) through 6/1 We are trying to jam as much possible into this short time frame, needless to say the zoo(s), aquarium, Pikes Peek, Water World are all on the list. We will probably hit an area, stay the night, see the sites and move to the next area and so on. Again, any insight from anyone is much appreciated. We dont get to travel together often, so I want to maximize the experience. |

well, i was going to suggest a bunch of dramatic scenary, but you live in alaska, so that's probably not going to be all that cool to you. Does the mint still give tours? That was pretty cool, not sure if they still do that after 9/11 there are some great restaurants around, although don't order seafood (you don't see any oceans around here. :-) ) You can take a tour of Coors Brewing, that's pretty cool (Golden) Elitchs (6 flags) is fun (esp with kids), school won't be fully out yet either, so a weekday won't be packed. |
| NE corner of River Bend Ponds on the north side of Prospect. Exit I-25 at Prospect, go west to Summit View, turn right, take Summit View to Cherly, turn left. There is a parking area on the left down the hill. It's a pretty big and nice natural area with lots of waterfowl to view also. |
you're going to exit @ 269B (hwy 14 west bound) which is the next exit north of the prospect exit as they are once again tearing up prospect. but since i've avoided prospect since before the work i'm not exactly sure if its west or east of summit view |

Just took a little drive, and out by the water treatment plant (the backside - no pun intended |
| Just went to the firefly place on ziegler. Didnt see any there, was there from about 8:15 to 8:45, walked the trail. Maybe too early in the year? I dunno. On a side note, though, there was a "killer deer" there - someone has obviously been feeding this huge mule deer doe. I was glad I was packing because it actually got about 15 feet from us, ears up, aggressive acting. Any closer and I probably would have pulled the trigger. It was pretty weird. Saw some ducks, heard some geese, pretty nice and quiet. Watch out for the killer deer. lol |
if you go south on zeigler to ketcher and go east (left) cross over 25 and on your right is anothe rbird viewing area. who know's. |
