POST SAYS WE SHOULD PAY FOR RIGHTS On April 4, 2003, the Denver Post published an outrageous editorial criticizing the General Assembly for failing to impose a $10 tax on firearms purchases. The opening line says it all: "Ten bucks is a small price to pay for a right so many Coloradoans hold so dear." Read the entire editorial at: http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E73%257E1296005,00.html Oh, really? What will the market price on Constitutional rights be next year? After making that outlandish statement, the editorial went on to say it was "insane" not to make gun buyers pay to prove they are not criminals when they buy a gun. It is time we explained to the elite, left-wing gun-control advocates that overpopulate the Post's editorial board that in America, taxes on the rights guaranteed by the Constitution, and protected by our brethren fighting and dying overseas, are not only illegal, they are immoral. If ever there was an editorial that deserved the contemptuous response of every shooter, hunter and gun owner in Colorado, it is this one. Write or email the Post ([email protected]) and tell them taxing the right to purchase guns is unnecessary, unconstitutional and unconscionable. Better still, if a fair price tag on our Second Amendment rights is $10, ask them what we should charge for the right to a free press? |

My e-mail; If you feel so strongly about imposing taxes on the rights which we hold so dear, why don't you convince the legislators to start with the first amendment. How about a tax on your right to speak your mind. I propose a tax on every paper you sell that voices your opinion. Perhaps a dollar per paper would be appropriate. After all, it's a right you believe so strongly in. A dollar is a small price to pay for a right. Oh, but I forgot, then it wouldn't be right, would it. Karl. |
