The Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Washington has three distinctive competitions for youth. There is no cost to enter and entrants do
not have to have an affiliation with the VFW or family members of veterans to enter. Rules and applications can be found at the links below.
All public, private, and home schooled children are eligible.
Prizes vary based on the competition. Individual VFW Posts may have local prizes which may not be evident in the rules or applications.

Youth Essay Contest. This years topic "What does a veteran mean to me?"
This is meant for grades 3, 4, and 5th.

Patriot's Pen Essay Contest. This years topic "America's Gift to my Generation"
This is meant for grades 6, 7, and 8th.

Voice of Democracy (verbal essay). This years topic "American History: Our Hope for the Future"
This is meant for grades 9, 10, 11, and 12th.
