New resident incoming.....Fiance navy stationed in Bremerton. Really excited to live in a new place that has rain and forests.

I understand yanks get to hunt on PUBLIC LAND???!?!(In Texas there isn't any really and you can't hunt on them). But i have heard bad things about hunting near Seattle. I was super impressed when i saw yall's gun laws. Texas doesn't even have open carry.

So school me.

-Hunting

-camping

-shooting ranges

- I am super excited to have pro baseball and football near me.

- Fish market's i have heard of

- Downtown seattle cool?

Gun laws are okay for the moment.  Not a ton of great places to shoot but Kitsap county has a couple of decent ranges.  Hunting on the west side is sporadic at best in my opinion because the deer are small and hard to find on the public land.  Big dear on the east side but its best if you can get in with a group that has a hunting camp of some kind.  Fishing is great but best from a boat in the sound.

If you haven't found the washington range map yet, here it is:

http://www.waguns.org/rangemap.html

It also has a gun store map.  It isn't a complete list, but it definitely gets you started.

The public (fish) market is interesting to see once or twice, but unless you live downtown it is too much trouble to shop on a regular basis.

Downtown is okay, I grew up near DC and Seattle leaves me feeling entirely safe in comparison, but honestly almost any city is safer than DC (If only they had stricter gun laws in DC right? Then it'd be safer! . . .)

Open carry is a great freedom, but the ease of getting a CPL here is even BETTER!  Go apply, there is no test, just pay your fee and you will have your CPL in a month's time. - http://www.dol.wa.gov/business/firearms/faconceal.html

Suppressors are GTG; SBRs and machine guns are still a no no.

lol

My father actually had the cops called on him for building a fire in their FIREPIT surrounded by GRAVEL.  Luckily, he's pretty skilled at verbal judo by all means... sad thing when my parents weren't even aware burn bans existed this way. :P

Pretty sure that's a Texas joke, Dallas, TX.

I believe somebody mentioned we're not yankees.  With the exception of the urban areas and the bedroom communities around them, there's still a very strong frontier pulse in this state.

And we're not yankees.

Even though I do not drink, I will say.  Where is the beer?  They always forget the beer.

Welcome

Do people still hunt in this state? I gave up on wdfw years ago, but that's another thread.

A lot of people hunt up here. Bremerton is a good area because plenty of the shipyard workers are hunters. Quite a few of my coworkers own property in Eastern WA and go hunting out there a couple times a year. I live a little ways south of Bremerton and have quite a few deer that walk right into my yard on a regular basis. Fishing is pretty good in the area, and there are plenty of lakes as well.

If you can, try not to live IN Bremerton. I own a house in East Bremerton, that I used to live in, which was burglarized 3 times while I lived in it over a 5 year period.

Welcome aboard!  Seattle's nice, and I love the Pacific Northwest.  It can be a bit tricky finding a place to shoot rifles in my area, but the laws here are not onerous.

I really want to get into precision shooting and start doing some of this hilltop to hilltop shooting.. I know a few spots I could place some gongs out to a pretty good distance.
