| Ok if you drive a snow plow Listen up. I have seen several causing more harm than doing good. the blade is designed to be set on the ground to push snow and ice off the road. most of the ice would not be there on my road if the 3 plows that drove it (2 times each) had their blade down. there were 3 this time that my hat is off to that where on the I-5 cooridor between everett and MT vernon. blade down 2 abreast getting the white stuff off the road. the other 18 i saw were just driving around. or sitting in the same spot for hours. One guy was pulled off at an intersection. not even off the road sleeping. Really, sleeping. with the truck running. what a waste of money. |

| I'm not saying a nap isn't cool. what I am saying is don't nap in the intersection. it was a side street intersection but still. I am also saying if you are driving your plow on an unplowed road...put the blade down!!!! you ain't doing anyone any good compacting the snow and ice. |
|
I guess I see both sides of the issue. Sure, sleeping at an intersection isn't the best idea. If his next assignment is to plow the road on the other side of the intersection after his break (during which he is napping), I guess I understand. If I were his supervisor, I would thank him for using judgement so he doesn't fall asleep while driving, and suggest that he sleep somewhere more out of public view the next time. I sure wouldn't gig him for any official misconduct unless he has had prior misconduct gigs for inappropriate napping.
For those who don't know, the term "gig" means to be chastised for misconduct. I may be dating myself by using that term, but what the hell. |
| i think the reason they dont have the plows down is the stupid dots they put on the roads. but i come from the northeast where they plow road when it snows and there is not all the stupid dots and medians and curbs down the middle of the road or speed bumps everywhere. personally i think its worth more to put a good coat of reflective paint so you can plow without worry then have the dots and only be able to run your plow 3/4 down. if your going to sleep on the job please do it where i cant see you, there is a lot of parking lots or places to hide and sleep. |

It seems the plows drivers in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, Minnesota and Utah do not understand how to properly operate a snow plow, either, for I have driven across thousands of miles of roads covered with compacted snow and ice in those states.
And how dare the operator of a snow plow catch a few winks of sleep during the day after working through the night and morning. |
|
Let's be honest, if he had parked in some half-hidden manner, it ain't easy to hide a plow truck, how many folks would be crying foul over the lazy .gov employee "hiding out" and sleepin' while pulling in the big taxpayer $$$$$$?
Some of them may be lazy but a lot of them are out there pulling double shifts to clear most of the snow from the roads. Pretty sure they're following SOP keeping the blade off the surface too. Blame the bureaucracy for that. |

So you want to spend the money to grind away asphalt on EVERY single reflector in the ENTIRE STATE, so that plows can properly plow once or twice a year?
Hell most of the streets don't even see a plow before it starts melting around here . "Oh noes!! My taxes went up!! I wonder why?" |

It maybe a good think to remove EVERY reflrctor and brail dot on the highway... That's more work for the union people... How many union workers does it take to replace one reflector or brail dot (really called "Botts’ Dots")? |
|
I have a nice collection of road reflectors after this last snow storm... apparently there are still some old school guys driving plow Back in my grandfather's day they'd work doubles and triples during big snows. They also didn't have mechanical sand spreaders and had a guy in the back of the bed with a shovel pushing it out. He recalls that if the driver lost it he'd blow the horn twice and the guy in the bed would then attempt to bail
They would also on hot summer days bring beer to the county shed and go through a few 12 packs before driving home after shift

Better yet, people receiving unemployment entitlements should be required to maintain the reflectors and dots as a condition of being given their handouts. WHAT.,.. And replace your union brothers... How dare you! Spanky, You would not last 3 mins. |

How dare you! Supplement, not replace. Besides, even if they do get replaced, the less motivated/productive ones will still have the opportunity to do the work just like everyone else who stays on the government teat for years on end instead of accepting what employment they are able to find. |
