So when to range 15 today for the first time in awhile.  Yard lines at 25, 50, 100, 200 and 300. Range Masters were pretty nice guys. Just wish their hours were longer. Good little range to go get a zero and some data. I'd recommend it to anybody in the area. 5 bucks aint too bad these days.

Anybody else out there today? I know one of you was, yeah you with the Saiga I'm talk about you.

Any forced registration?  Went to a briefing the other day and they mentioned that to use the range, you must register guns first.  I asked why since you can access it without going through a controlled access point.  Never got an answer.

As far as I know there is no need to register weapons for use of said weapons at the range. The range is open to Mil and Civ (although Civs maybe charged slightly more) it can be accessed via East Gate road with out entering the East Gate checkpoint. Therefore you are not "On" JBLM however the land and East Gate road is part of the JBLM training areas. I believe both MPs, Range Control and local law enforcement share responsibility for policing these areas.

All of that leads me to the following rules of thumb.

1. You are Mil or a Mil dependent living on base then you must register (Their house, their rules, however gay it maybe).
2. You are Mil living off base then you don't have to register your firearms as you do not reside on post and therefore don't fall under Post Regs and can generally do your own thing within the law of the land (Federal and State). I've never had any issues transporting locked and cased firearms across post. But just remember when you step on base your not in Kansas any more. Also don't forget you are also still subject to the UCMJ and they will fuck you 9 different ways till Sunday if they feel like it.
3. You are Civ living off base, then you are not subject to having to register your weapon.

That being said the range master could probably give two shits if you live on post and your weapon is or is not registered. They are not there to enforce things like that. You are responsible for following rules and regulation wither or not they are enforced. There main concerns are safety at the range and your money.

just to let everyone know the deal,

as soon as you pass the military instalation signs its "jblm" its enforced by the mps, and the da police, the locals don't have jurisdiction right there, unless its fish and game.

in theory, you don't have to register the gun to go to the range, but if you go anywhere else besides the range and take the gun out of the car you will get you dick slapped in the dirt hard.

for yall who have ccw, once you pass the signs (enter "jblm land") state ccw is not valid for carry, due to federal pre-emption. enforcement of this is variable, and not AS strict as on main comtonement.

all of the marked land, from main post, all the way down to rainer is federal land, and without proper permissions you can be cited for a wide variety of things.

and for fucks sake, please don't get caught target shooting on jblm land, or hunting without post permits.

i don't make the rules, i just have to deal with the enforcing end
