I know no one has asked me to post a garden report, but I'm doing it anyway...

After a couple of complete failures, year 3 of my attempts to grow tomatoes in Western Washington has finally borne fruit.

Best local cultivars I have found so far are… Matina, Seattle’s Best of All and Momotaro (AKA Tough Boy). The little ones are supposed to be best but I don’t bother with 'em. They gotta big enough to slice for sammiches or I'm not interested.

Amend soil with lime to add calcium and neutralize acidic conifer needles.

Don’t plant until nighttime soil temps stay above 45.

We’ve eaten probably 8 ~ 10lbs over the last month and there has to be at least another 40 – 50lbs still green on the vine. All this from 9 plants... mostly we've had a bunch of 2"- 2.5" from the Matinas. The other varieties are coming along nicely with some larger and tasty looking fruit, but most have not ripened just yet.

I'm Off to buy jalapenos for salasa, 'cause I still can't grow a pepper for shit...

Those look great!  I am having success this year with tomatoes too. The cherry tomatoes are almost too much to handle, so much growing. All the work on the peppers.... I have one pepper growing. Lame. ALL of my leafy varieties (lettuce, spinach, brussel sprouts) failed, slugs and some type of black insect, smaller than an aphid killed 'em all. Nice job with yours!

We have a few tomatos. Roma and Early Girl.

Big year for the cabbage.

Bad year for eggplant and corn.

The summer that almost was.

My 4 deck tomato plants died this year.

I did get 240 lbs of tomatoes, 10 lbs of tomatillos, and 20lbs of various peppers delivered to my door for a Benjamin.

Vine ripened tomatoes and strawberries fresh from the patch are so much better than store bought that it is  almost like they are a different fruit.  The taste of fresh off the vine/out of the patch just can't be beat.
