In the last year or two, I have destroyed two laptop/netbook screens, and now 2 laptop/netbook hard drives. I'm contemplating replacing my current hdd with a ssd. Anyone done this? Are they way more durable?
I'm getting frustrated because electronics money is cutting into my jeeping/shooting money... |

| Solid state hard drives are more expensive, but less vulnerable to shock damage WHILE ON than a standard HDD. The reason conventional HDD's are able to be damaged is while on and writing/reading, a serious bump can cause the read/write head to hit the disk, scratching the disk. So if you're dropping these things often... probably not worth your while to go buy a pricey SSD. |

My HP netbook's keyboard decided to quit working while out on the road. Now, I've got to wait 'til I take it back home, hook up a USB keyboard to it and back up a few things and commence the warranty return process. The Windows on-screen keyboard works except for the Ctrl-Alt-Del login. The on-screen keyboard worked before I logged out, powered-down, removed and cleaned the keyboard with compressed air. The ZIF connector appears to be in good condition and clean. On an unrelated note, it sounded like shots were fired (two strings of three shots) within 1000' of my AO. I guess that's Hayward for you... ![]() |
