I live in the Columbia river Gorge (western end). We don't lose power any more now that they upgraded the lines and trimmed some trees. A Clark PUD guy showed up at our door a couple years back to apologize for the power being out. He noticed our power was on. He wanted to put a voltmeter on an outlet. 117-119 volts. He said the only thing that could be causing us to have power when everyone else that gets power off the same line is that we have an excellent ground system, as that is the wire than broke when a tree fell on it. I told him it's all of the bodies I have buried in my backyard that's doing that. I drop a wire down in the hole before I cover it over and attach it to the ground wire coming out of the house near the breaker box. Funny thing was when he went over to where the ground rods are to take a look.
