so I have a flat on the deuce. I purchased tools necessary (or so I thought) to change the tire.  backed the deuce in the driveway and backed too far busting one of my bows on the roof overhang. Got to removing the tire and apparently a 650 ft-lb impact gun isn't enough to break loose wheels that are only supposed to be torqued to 250. In my infinate wisdom I grab my beefiest 1/2" drive ratchet ( I do not own breaker bars) and a 4 ft cheater pipe. I broke the ratchet. It sheared on the drive part. This has ruined my day.

Photos up close seem to suck with this camera..

Cheater bar on breaker bar= win

Cheater bar on ratchet= fail.

Sometimes you just have to stop, crack a cold one and regroup. It will be OK in the end.

We used to use a breaker bar with along with a section of camo net pole.  Works like a charm.

Are these the split rims?

If so, take that shit to a tire place.

No way in hell I'd work on that. Those rings do heinous shit if they aren't on perfect and they pop off while inflating.

they are lockring rims, I know they are dangerous, I understand how devastating they are when they go, but I have 10 spares in the back yard holding air, just need to remove and replace.

Those ain't called widow makers for nothing. And, hey, it's only flat on the bottom, right?

I feel you on the house crunching.  First rattle out of the box when I got my Deuce down here I crunched a 10ft over head shop door with the stack.  Come to find out, there's only an inch of clearance when the flap is up.

Sorry about your bow, but that's not as bad as the mechanic that framed your new garage door opening.

That's not so bad then.

I'm sure it'll suck busting it loose, but at least you don't have to risk your life.

BTW  $10 says the reason it's locked on there so bad is that it's been painted many times with the rim in place.  Don't ask me how I know.

Take the extension off of the socket when your using your rattle gun. (it acts like a torsion bar and robs some of the power from the gun)

ETA: Penetrating oil, check direction of rotation, run compressor up to full air pressure.

Extension removal: check
Penetrating oil: PB Blaster
Direction: reverse
Compressor: Deuces on board air supply maxed out @120psi (max operating pressure for gun is 90, absolute max is 115 psi.)

no joy...there is a "T-handle" made for situations like this, I just dont have the $75 at the moment to go get it.

yeah... I'm at fault on that one as well, seems every time I paint the rims, a tire goes flat

The ratchet pictured is (was) actually a 3/8", not a 1/2" drive.

The air system on the truck *may* have enough pressure to move the air gauge, but it doesn't have enough *volume* to run an air impact, especially a big one.

Back in the days when I was a profesional truck tire monkey I would have used this:

You'll have one helluva time trying to break those bad boys with hand tools. Swing by the local tire shop and see if you can talk the road service guy into dropping by to break the lugs for you. A half rack of decent beer will likely get the job done for you.

I was worried about the air system having enough volume, but I assure you that ratchet is a 1/2 inch drive, the adapter on it was to step up unit from 1/2 to 3/4 drive to use the budd socket

I stand corrected.

Can you get your hands on a storage tank to increase your stored air volume?

that is my next thought, adding a couple more air tanks to the deuce's system.

Round two

After acquiring a torque multiplying lug wrench, I was back in business. this one doubles your torque so I figure (correct me if my math is wrong) with a 3 foot handle on it and my 200 pounds dancing on it, I am applying 1200 ft-lbs to these lug nuts to break them loose. some of the inners require the 4 ft cheater pipe, and I am literally dancing on it (river dance style) to break them loose. That is a scary feeling too. seems I need a beer break between each hub. I am removing them all and applying anti seize and using just the impact gun to install them so that I have a chance of changing a flat  in the future when the time comes. 6 tires down, 4 to go.

Convert it, then you would only have four tires to worry about.
