I'll take the liberty of assuming that he is talking about Boeing suspending deliveries of 787 major sub-sections to Everett plant for about 5 weeks. Various subcontractors, and Boeing's Charleston plant, have been falling behind and shipping incomplete assemblies that have to be completed/reworked by mechanics at Everett. Boeing is trying to give everyone a chance to catch up. Probably not much more than a fly in the ointment in the overall picture, just more evidence of how mismanaged the whole 787 outsourcing program has been.

It would be nice to think that this has killed the Glow-ball Village Idiot concept that the ,most effective way to carry through a huge project is to give everybody a piece of the pie.  Sub-contract, fine, make 'em equal partners, screw it, they can't keep up, esepcially when it involves technology like using composites where everyone is used to riveting metal...

Its the King5 report that is the most entertaining. Some people who have read it, have gotten the idea from the report that whole line is being shut down for a month.

Boeing employees are the most vocal and frequent about how bad they have it, hence the frequent posts.

ETA: In before the proof that union minions can make better planes.

No kidding, I have a friend in college, and the professor in his economics class keeps pushing it down his throat that globalization is the way of the future.   He being a dumb college kid hangs on every word even though what he's being taught means there's less jobs for him when he graduates.

+1

Boeing executive management and business school types ignored the warnings of the experienced engineering and manufacturing leaders within the company and pushed ahead with a plan that nearly everyone in the company balked at.  In addition, the partners (Japanese heavies, Vought (aka Charlston, SC), Alenia (the Italians), and various backshops throughout the world made commitments they couldn't keep and refused to staff up for.

No biggie, it's not their name on the side of the airplane and they knew big daddy Boeing would bail them out when they screwed up.  Boeing has to, it's their reputation on the line.

Douglas Aircraft Company made the A-3 Skywarrior.

Douglas Aircraft Company merged with McDonnell Aircraft to become McDonnell Douglas Corporation.

McDonnell Douglas Corporation merged with Boeing.

Boeing now owns the rights and responsibilities of all of those aircraft those entities made.

So, KA3B, tell us how fucked-up Boeing's products are.  Don't hold back.

There's not one part of an A-3 that's made by Boeing.

Did you know that all of the major parts of the Superhornet have McDonnell Douglas identi-plates on them?
That all of the parts use McDonnell Douglas part numbers.
That the only place on the Superhornet that says "Boeing" is right under the stbd stab where the Mil-Spec paint system is identified (and rumor has it that people remove it as soon as possible).
