What is with all you people that like to hate the WAC shows?
I swear to fucking Christ all you do is bitch just to see yourself bitch and whine like a crack whore with nothing to smoke. "I haven't gone in years and I don't miss it". That's fucking bullshit and you know it. Why else would you write about it? If you haven't been in years then how would you know what you're missing? I suppose none of you whinning shit heads never stop at a yard sale either? "Nah, there's probably nothing there." What a fucked up mentality. How do you know there isn't anything there if you don't fucking stop?????
If you don't like what someone is asking for their p.o.s. M1 that was used for a tent stake in Nickelsville, MOVE THE FUCK ON! There is more than one table there. Joe Dweasel is asking to much for his G17? WHO THE FUCK CARES? Obviously you do, because YOU took the time to tell all of us that he wouldn't sell it to your pissy, whinning, cheap ass.
Guess what? It's your right NOT to buy anything from anybody, (except health care).
I go to most all gun shows. My $35 pesos a year provide me with entertainment. I don't find that super deal on every show I go to, nor do I expect to. I don't come in here blasting away at fat fucks with poor personal hygiene. Guess what? I STAY AWAY FROM THOSE PEOPLE!
Once in a while, I do find a deal. It didn't have to be a Chrome Colt 1911 38 Super for $100. No, could of been a case for one of my rifles or a scope rail or any fucking thing I was looking for or maybe I wasn't looking for.
If you're so fucking lazy to get off your dirty, shit stain ass and go to the gun show, then shut the fuck up!

Nice rant!

Before someone complains about a WAC show, they should be required to go to an East side show.  A Tri-Cities show will generally take 15-20 minutes to get through and you will leave shaking your head about the $6 that you dropped at the door.  Nebraska  and Pennsylvania shows are pretty much the same thing.  As much as the WAC shows suk, there are a LOT worse shows out there.

Try the Sequim show if you want small. the little commie pinko chief of cops ran the show out of town to a grange out in the valley.

Nice rant!

I've been on both sides of this. For me my complaints were mostly driven by WAC policies that I disagreed with, and I wasn't above throwing in a jab at other stuff as well (really, the lamp and jewelry tables just DON'T fit. But I zoom past them). I've now re-joined WAC and been to 2 shows. I didn't realize how much I missed it until I returned. Talking with table holders about their wares, seeing Mr. Holbrook's awesome collection of 1911's and how he is still showing up for shows despite his health issues. Shooting the breeze with Dave Workman and his son, running into fellow arfcom members, etc. And as an added bonus my WAC money goes to support GOAL, the best thing going for us gun owners in Olympia.

I'm past the hate now, and have moved on to better things. Like getting my Oregon CHL!

Fuck you too....

First off, this is a gun board, and like all such boards, opinions are asked. If you don't like the opinion, either offer your own or STFU. No one asks you to read dwell on anything.

Second, the  WAC shows aren't free. You have to pay to get in....and for the money, it offers NOTHING (imho) in the way of deals, entertainment, food, or sex.

Third, it's reasonable to think if you've been there a dozen times in the past years, and there was nothing there but assholes and know-it-alls, then *this* time it'll be no different. That's what a "good name" reputation is for....one develops a good name––a good reputation––based on DOING something good....likewise, one develops a BAD NAME for doing something bad...like charging 300% retail on used, well-worn guns...parts that the dealer doesn't know what they go to...ammo that comes from God knows which country, and what's the QC like there? Never mind the fuckin' Beanie Babies, jewelry, and assorted dollar-store CRAP that is sold at a....what's it called again? A GUN show?

Fourth, since many of us don't go there (but a lot of shit-heel yahoos do) management and retailers have no incentive to change...why should they? Obviously they sell enough crap to make ends meet....so guess what? They're crap sellers, with crap buyers.

Fifth, it's not just WAC––I've read on other boards that they have their equivalent in other states. Organizations that don't give a fuck about the customers (think one ticket person; instead one finds several checking purses etc for cameras and guns)....the customers mostly don't give a fuck about anyone else (don't bath for a week, pushing and shoving just to fondle––but not buy––anything, standing around blocking the aisle, chatting with some fuckwad who claims he was in Viet Nam).......HELL I COULD JUST GO TO WAL-MART FOR THE SAME EXPERIENCE....AND THAT'S FREE.

Sixth, yes I stop at yard sales when  I have the time. Much nicer experience there. Only exception are the "professional, full time" yard salers....and I leave them ASAP, once I get a whiff of their bullshit. ("Here's a toaster....only $15, like new!")

I'm glad you feel your $35 is money well-spent on entertainment....Hey, if it works for you, great! So why the FUCK are you pissing on the rest of us for bitching at gun shows? It's not like we're bitching at YOU for your choices...."Hey look everyone! A15L is a douchebag for going to, and actually liking, the WAC shows! Let's all dump on him!" No, most all the bitching is at the show itself....

Instead of bitching at us for not liking the shows, why not explain how the WAC is better than, say, using the EE, or site sponsors, or just the plain ol' Interwebs to buy stuff-n-such?

How is WAC better?

Nice rant. I'll confess to having posted whiny bitchy comments about the shows Like the last Monroe show in the small room. I think gun shows mean different things to different people. Some folks like to shoot the shit for hours upon hours. I got no problem with that by any means and I like to BS as much as the next guy. Where I tend to see issues is if you are there to purchase firearms and that is your only intent. As being a person who is fairly informed and know's what things cost, the gun shows are a rip off most of the time. Oh and instead of selling ear plugs, they should sell nose plugs....

Decent Rant, but........................

the WAC shows pander to profits not shooters. that is why you see table holders selling crystals, beef jerky, socks, records, baseball cards, posters, beanie babies, dolls, wood carvings, truck loads of firewood, tennis shoes, etc........

They allow outside forces to dictate what is done in there organization. The policies are shit, but my biggest complaint is: the people themselves. In this day and age an organization is judged by their membership, so when you walk the isles and smell cat piss and sweat and see a bunch of slobs in sweatpants and camo, that is not good for the overall outlook of the organization. If you walk the isles and don't see anything wrong, look in the mirror......

I used to enjoy going to the WAC and looking around and buying stuff from several select tables that I was a regular customer to.

However, those tables either

A). Got kicked out
B). Opened their own store

As far as those who got kicked out, you may say policy is policy. However, I can choose not to support said policy with my money.

I know some find it entertaining. I know I did at first.  However, I am not so much a “deal shopper” or hoping to find something cool. I know what I want and where to find it.

To each their own.

I've never been to a WAC show, and I don't plan on ever going. Having to join a fancy club in order to buy a gun regardless of the fact that you are paying admission to the event is bullshit IMHO. As I understand it you can buy all the jerky, bbq sauce, wood, and cat piss that you can stand by just paying the entrace fee, but if you want to buy a $50 lorcin from a table then you need to join their club and pay their membershit fee, and if a dealer accidentally sells to someone without their fancy card then in retaliation for not getting their slice of the gun deal they boot the vendor for life.

I'll stick to spokane shows where you can get in for $7 and buy all the guns you want without having to give the company running the show another slice.

It’s not surprising that a lot of people on this board don’t like the gun shows – I get the impression that many of them aren’t really gun enthusiasts anymore or weren’t really enthusiasts in the first place. The WA HTF is long on drama and short on gun topics.

The WAC shows are certainly not the best shows that I’ve ever been to, but I appreciate the unique opportunities that they present, such as: the Grant Co Sheriff doing the OHL process; the guy who brings in books that I wouldn’t be able to find or otherwise wouldn’t know about; the airgun guy who comes up from Portland; and the opportunity to do private sales with other members – some of which have been great deals.

Granted, there are more than a few shitty dealers that you see at every show, and you have to do some hard looking to find good deals, but that’s just life. The exact same thing could be said about the local gun dealers. Who cares if someone is selling non gun related stuff… BFD, just keep walking. Go to Lane Bryant and get yourself some bigger underwear I guess that about 90% of the show is chaff, but I’d rather deal with that than lose the 10% that makes it worthwhile.

As far as the retards in the crowd, yeah, I hate those guys too. The dirtbag quotient in this part of the country is pretty high though so it’s not all that surprising. Same goes for the sideways-hat crowd that always seem to materialize at these shows. They just come with the territory.

Maybe that is because the WAHTF is a fairly close bunch (at least the GOBC ). There are plenty of get togethers and many folks here consider others close friends in real life off the board. Therefore we talk about beer, local happenings, and other shit that makes makes us laugh. Sure there is drama, but that is part of life.

You want gun topics? Look at all the "Damn you Mary's Pistols" threads or the "Look what I got a Shizzle" threads.  Often get togethers at others homes become a "show and tell." So there are plenty of enthusiasts here, we just talk about more than guns. That is all.

I don't HATE the WAC, I'm just tired of their crap.

Tired of having to be there at 8am on a Saturday to get any of the deals since most of them go to other table holders.

Tired of the crap shoot. Sure there are deals there, but the chances of finding something I wanted anyways AND a good deal at the same time are infinitesimal. Why should I keep going there if they never have what I want? I'll save up my money and take it to a place that DOES stock what I want.

Tired of the idea that badge holders can't sell guns to non badge holders in the building, but as soon as they step out into the parking lot of the same building, gun deals happen all the time.

Tired of retarded politics like "no cameras", or background checks for members, just so that WAC looks "a little bit better" to their political opponents.

Tired of the idea that I have to go to a show (since I already paid my membership) when I got no funds to buy things.

Tired of the idiots who think we HAVE to support them because it's the only gun show around; and we're all in this 2A gig together. (Same reason I'm not an NRA member, they don't stand for what I do)

Tired of paying dues and then not getting the stuff that was supposed to come with my membership. You know, like a magazine subscription, or a fucking newsletter to at least make me think my money is going somewhere, or a fucking vote for that matter.

But I don't fo around badmouthing the WAC, I usually just ignore them. You asked why, and these are my reasons. There are many like them, but these ones are mine.

Went out there today for a little while since I needed to try and walk around and to meet up with another Arfcommoner...

There were more T-shirt, jelly, book, pillow and other non gun shit tables there than there were tables with guns on them.

I found one third of what I was looking for. Simple things. Like ammo cans.

Five or so years ago I would have said the show was alright and you could have a good chance of finding a deal.

Now it's shit.

I walked by 3 tables where they had boxes of .45ACP purchased at Wally World for $16 and they marked it up to $23.

Why the hell would I pay that when there's a Wal-Mart less than a mile away?

I saw several beat up guns tagged for more than they sell for brand new. I was glared at and ignored, even as a due paying member...

I have not received a newsletter from them in almost a year. I don't get to vote for who's on the board. Its become an old boys club and all they care for is profit.

So tell me... what has the WAC done to deserve my continued patronage?

You can say I am a hater for saying it's shit, but it is shit.

So I hate. So what?

Go bend your dick backward and fuck yourself in the ass.

It’s not surprising that a lot of people on this board don’t like the gun shows – I get the impression that many of them aren’t really gun enthusiasts anymore or weren’t really enthusiasts in the first place. The WA HTF is long on drama and short on gun topics.

I totally get it - a lot of message boards are this way and I wasn't even meaning it as a criticism.

On hobbyist boards, especially in regional sub-forums, you often see that many members have interest changes over time and they sell their sports car/motorcycle/guns/whatever but stick around on the board because they have friends there. The byproduct is usually a group of people who really aren't as involved in the hobby as they used to be and thus their interest level in the board subject matter is relatively low. There is more to it than just this obviously, but surely you know what I am talking about

I tried to word my post carefully and not say something like all or most people because there are clearly people that are indeed gun enthusiasts on this board. My point was merely to say that the lacking "enthusiast" level of interested (as opposed to simply gun owner or mild hobbyist) would lead to people running out of patience with the auxiliary amount of crap found at a WAC show. I consider myself an enthusiast so putting up with bad at a WAC show to find the good is worth it.

For the record, I like most of you guys and really don't mind the drama on the board and don't care if you hate the WAC show or not. I was just giving my impression of the matter

But if you had to pick only one, would you pay to see the backward dick in the ass thing or go to a WAC show? (same entry fee applies)

Not even a second thought about it, I would pay to see a backwards dick to ass insertion.

I like the WAC.  The more of you guys that don't, the more chance I will still be able to find one of the few good deals.  They are there to make money.  Like any other business, they win some and they lose some.

Move to Oklahoma City (or the surrounding area).

Wanenmacher's, Tulsa Apr 10-11

Claude Hall's, OKC Apr 17-18

Metcalf Gunshows, Ardmore Apr 17-18

G&S Promotions, Altus Apr 24-25

Metcalf Gunshows, OKC Apr 24-25

Oklahoma City to Tulsa is about as far as it is for me to go to the Puyallup show.
Oklahoma City to Altus is about a half hour drive.
Oklahoma City to Ardmore is an hour and 15 minute drive.

I gave up my WAC membership after they booted Carricoz.
Anything I need I can get elsewhere with less bullshit. Mary's, Shizzle and SGN have pretty much clinched the fact I will never go back.

Well I have to say I have been tainted... The very first gun show I went to was the LA county Cross Roads of the West Gun show in Pomona California. Let me tell you it was FUCKING HUGE... MASSIVE... GIGANTIC. To see every thing it would take you 3 full days at a quick pace. It was awesome. That set the stage for me and gun shows. There has NEVER been anything else like it that I have gone to.

I join the WAC every year as it fulfills the CMP requirements. Also they do work on Gun issues. To spite them is to spite your nose on your face.

Are the perfect? no... but they are what we have in the area. I like to talk to some of the vendors and say high and to get entertained.

There are just some people who have to hate... And I hate people like that... Just hate them to no end....

I was considering posting about the WAC as well, after seeing some comments yesterday and going to the show today.

I still can't find any reason to bash the WAC. I could have easily posted the same thread title as AR15L––-"Why the hate?"––-although I will admit he pretty much addressed the WAC haters and not the WAC itself, which was probably a tactical thread blunder––or maybe that was exactly his intention––no matter––but I totally understand why he brought up the subject. He made some valid points about 'just move on' if you run into a bad dealer, or to 'just avoid' certain people––this is what most people do with every other kind of business they transact with––why is it so hard to do at the WAC show?

So, obviously, some of you have your negative opinions, and have even given some very specific examples. My response to that is "fine"––as several have said, your are entitled to your opinions.

Let me address those who do not yet have a strong opinion, or those who may starting to tilt toward the anti-WAC side.

First: if you are a member, then there is no "they/them/that" organization––-it is "we/us/our" organization. If you have a complaint about policy or logistics, then you can make your suggestion to the board or go to a meeting and be heard. If the event is understaffed, maybe you can consider volunteering. We have had WAHFT members run for office in the past. It is our club. It is a member run club––you can't expect super-slick customer service like you would get at some rich free-market corporation.

Second: beef jerky, beanie babies and jewelry, etc. A very popular thing to bash. But I think that having them there is actually a touch of marketing brilliance. Why? It keeps some of the kids and females interested––-in many cases, it keeps them interested long enough to where they start being interested in guns. In any event, it keeps them interested enough in going to the show. There are many guys who can't go unless they bring the wife/kids/etc. It is good for our sport/hobby/obsession. A lot of you guys own/run businesses. You can explain it better than I. The market rules––if the beanie baby people weren't making money, they wouldn't sell there. If the gun dealers lost too many sales to the beanie baby people, they would force a change. You can always just move on to the next table.  If they keep selling beanies at gun shows, the next thing you know, they'll be selling popcorn at movie theatres.

Third: security/non-member sales/cameras etc. Do not ever forget that there are people out there who hate us and are actively trying to stop us. They are fighting a war with us for public opinion. Antis have tried to trick dealers into selling to felons, or make us look bad on hidden cameras, etc. There is speculation at other shows around the country that antis have intentionally left guns loaded trying to cause accidents. This was before the zip-tie days. Some of the security rules suck, but we are just playing defense.

Fourth: the "I'll just go to Surplus A&A" instead argument. Now, I don't know a damn thing about their financials, but I do know, that before the storefront opened in Lakewood, James built up a pretty good clientele at....guess where...the WAC Show!! It may be plausible to say you only have that storefront option because of the WAC show (just speculating). [Note: I am a huge fan of SA & Ammo––this is in no way a bash of them. I think I was buying from James before there was a WAHTF].

Fifth: leaving all politics aside... The WAC show is a pretty unique opportunity. You have this huge time window on the weekend to go when it suits you. You can bring a friend/meet a friend/go solo/or try to run into (or over) some of us characters––whatever suits you. If you are not buying, there are myriad old timers and experts who can entertain or educate you if it suits you. You can do hands on window shopping and price comparison for an incredible variety of gear. You can go because your bored, or because you really need a part. Etc. etc. this line of reasoning should be pretty obvious.

Anyhow, I suggest to the unopinionated that you take the time to form your own opinion, and not just join in because WAC bashing seems popular sometimes on the web.

For the anti-WAC people, I thank those who gave a specific reason they hold that opinion.

Having been a member for almost 24 years,I have seen it change from a small show to what it is now.My member # is in the 13K range . I recognize a lot of the vendors because its the same ol crowd every month.

Before the advent of the internet,I used to be able to find some deals there. Lately,as in the last 5 years or so,I have rarely been able to find a good deal on a gun.The sellers frequently price a used gun higher than i can get a new one at a gun shop. But its capitalism at its best.

Have  occasionally been able to find ammo and accesories though. take yesterday for example. Bought a Carbon fiber Serpa holster for my Glock for 10 bucks. Brand new they are 50.

I keep my membership because I like looking at guns. where ya gonna find all those guns in one place.
