MLK was an inspirational man. Not a perfect one by any means, but certainly a historical figure.
But even at that I am disturbed that we had a day to honor him instead of all of those that worked for Civil Rights. Hell, we stopped honoring Washington's birthday in order to create a 'presidents day'. If George Washington doesn't deserve his own day MLK certainly doesn't. |

AFAIK he was registered neither, his Father was a registered Republican, as were most Blacks back then. But if one must put him in a box, Republican it would have to be. What did he do that inspired anyone? Now Thurgood Marshall? He actually did something. If anyone should have a holiday for the Civil Rights success, Thurgood would be the one. I guess there is a big difference between being a humble servant and a self serving politician. |

ETA: If we're gonna have THAT guy's birthday be a holiday, hell, the LEAST we could do is have a holiday remembering birthdays of important folks, like Samuel Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, etc. etc. Every one of their fuckin' birthdays should be a holiday before THAT guys'.
