Since I don't know what any of those things stand for, I'm guessing I don't have the right qualifications

Then you would qualify for Plant Utility Worker (PUW).
entry level laborer. learn how to run a D-11 dozer, operate conveyors unloading train loads of coal, etc. after you master the shovel and wash down hose. starting wage = $25 + bennies more or less.
12 hr rotating shifts. ( That means night and days.)
7 or 8 day stretch off every 28 days in addition to other days off. basic schedule = 13 days per 28.
Gotta piss clean. (Nothing personal)
Give the greeners fits. Union haters need not apply.

Is there a shift differential on the non-day shifts when you have to work those?  Centrailia is a ways for me - and this would be outside my knowledge base, but desperate times require desperate measures

That's not bad for an entry level job.

are you shitting me...for unskilled labor?
I've got 20 years experience at a skilled profession, own my own tools...and don't make that much.

Ye-ap ... the question is, how much does the union get of that $25/hr?

Let's not make this a union or coal bashing fest or I will ask that the thread be pulled.
As far as the video, that stack is emitting water vapor from a FGD (sulphur scrubber) system.
This was built to meet EPA Clean Air Act regs. passed by Bush 1.
We voluntaraly started to test mercury capture systems and will commission same soon.
Carbon capture long term will never happen and the greeners will get their wish. The plant will close in 15 years best scenario for that reason. This based on current law signed by the Governor in 2008 and 2009.
As far as the PUW wage, $25 is after 6 months probation. First 3 months is $17, second 3 months is $20 or so. I don't have a contract handy. but these numbers are close to actual. PUW typically move up tp Fuel Equip. Operator in a year or so which pays 28 or so.
The shifts are 12 hr. You rotate from days to nights 4 times a month with a 7 or 8 day stretch off every month. Expect to work days off as OT is required at times.
Shift work such as this gives you a 5% premium added to base wage.
Union dues =1.25% of wages.

If you figure out what the out of pocket cost for the benefits would be to buy the same coverage, as long as the dues are less yer still coming out ahead. I know for a fact mine would cost me more to buy then I pay in dues. Add to that that dues are tax deductible and I'm not seeing the downside.

Not that I know of or heard of. These days though, everything can be accessed if they want to. I've even heard credit ratings can affect hiring.

Mechanics work 4-10 hr day shifts, Mon-Thurs. They work an average of 4-500hrs. OT/year. Spokane could be doable. One fellow in the electric shop works same shift and commutes to Kent on Thursday night, staying in an apartment here for 4 days. Since Spokane is 4 times farther, I guess that could be a deal breaker.

I should have looked before I listed wages for PUW.
1st 6 mo= $12.31
2nd 6 mo= 15.37
3rd 6 mo= 19.36 then go to 23.87
They typically move up to fuel equip operator in 1-2 years which is 1st 6 mo= 27.16 then go to 29.68
I apologize for the misinformation.
