I hate saying "I told you so", especially to my dad, who I really respect ![]() A few months back, my dad trades cars at a used car dealership on 82nd Ave in Portland.. if ya'll know p-town, that's the one place where you can get Asian food, hookers, and hit up skeezey used car lots all at the same time I tell my dad that while he may have gotten an okay deal, something was going to go way wrong and he'd be paying for it later.. I half expected the car to be held together by duct tape, sawdust, and bailing wire.. but it's been good. Besides, this dealership was run by Ruslan, it had to be legit, right?Recently, he was contacted by a tow company in Portland. It appears his old car, which he traded into the dealership, was abandoned on I-5. The dealer never transfered the title, which is all too common in Oregon if the car has good tags(which it did), and for some reason or another Oregon doesn't crack down on it They threatened my dad with collections and the like, he had to prove he released interest in the vehicle. Fortunately WA DOL has this stuff on file, and he had all the paperwork..Nothing good ever comes from dealings on 82nd.. unless it involves Asians

I traded an eclipse a few years back, guy who got it from me took it to a shop to get some work done on it, they left the windows down with the keys in it and it was stolen and involved in a high speed pursuit until the engine blew up on I90, cops called me and told me they had recovered my eclipse that had been stolen, and I was like huh none of my eclipses have been stolen.

Don't those Asians down there call themselves nocturnal hospitality workers? Based on my observations while driving down 82nd Ave............the "nocturnal hospitality workers aren't usually Asian." Maybe 1 or 2, then again, they could have been inside at the time. Buyer beware. Aloha, Mark |

jonathon, Are you trying to say that Russian Car Dealers are at fault for your dad's problems? Or the state? Or are you saying that your dad is _________ for not doing the "paperwork" to notify the Government, that the transfer had taken place? Aloha, Mark Maybe it's just they way I read it, but I got the moral of the story was to be mindful of who you do buiness with. I didn't read that he was blaming anyone for anything. I traded in a car years ago at a well known factory dealership and all the paperwork was done for me. A reputable dealership does take care of these things, a shady (russian) used lot in this case obviously did not. |

Dad had the paperwork.......and........WA state had the record. So that leaves.............OR state and the USED CAR LOT run by the Russian. Aloha, Mark |

State paperwork was done by my dad the day he traded it in, and when the plate was last checked(a few weeks ago) it was flagged SOLD in DOL's system.
My only guess is that metermaids and oregon tow companies don't see the "flagged sold" in the registration info? If the registration is never transfered it just stays flagged sold with the previous registered owner listed. |
