Legendary wrestling figure and Cyndi Lauper's on-screen father Captain Lou Albano has died.

Albano died Wednesday at the age of 76, according to World Wrestling Entertainment.

The cause of death was not released.

Albano was "one of the company's most popular and charismatic legends" and performed for WWE from 1983 to 1996, the company said on its Web site.

He was perhaps best known as Cyndi Lauper's father in the 1980s music video "Girls Just Want to Have Fun."

Albano was with the WWE from 1983 to 1996. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996.

He started as a tag team wrestler in the 1950s and became a successful manager of champion wrestlers in the 1970s, according to his biography on the WWE site.

Albano was recognizable by his penchant for Hawaiian shirts and rubber bands in his beard.

The company stated on its site that Albano "will be greatly missed by the WWE and his fans."

They're reporting that it was natural causes, but the guy was 5'10" or so and weighed 350.  I can imagine that didn't help him out any.

RIP big guy.  The WWF/WWE would never have made it if it weren't for you guys back in the mid-late 80's.  Thanks for the memories.

He lived longer than most in that profession.
