Luvmyglock just walked out the door to go take the test. Be praying he gets a good score!

Holy freakin test score, batman!
His recruiter opened the envelope this morning and said, "Damn! That's one helluva test score! The last guy that got this good of a score we found out he lied on his application and we couldn't let him into the military."
Shows luvmyglock the paper: 95.

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot!!!!!!!
So now he can do any job he wants, and I'm very very proud of him.

Ahh.......shit.
I KNEW there was a reason I didn't want him in the Air Fore. I bet if I run I could catch him.

My scores must have sucked.  The only thing they offered me was infantry, armor, baker or plumber.

How do you like Texas?  That's where his training is going to be from basic, through tech school.  If you go with him, you'll really get to know the San Antonio area.

If I had to do it all over again, that would be the last AFSC I would want.

SP/SF is the "catchall" career field that people get sent to when they wash out of other tech. schools.  IOW, there's lots of competition for rank and they have a high amount of narcing each other out/entrapping each other eatting their own.

My AFSC had a limit to how long our shifts could be (12 hours) that didn't even get violated during 9/11 when our base went into lockdown. The "cops" weren't so lucky.

Also, that's a career that can get sent to almost any base, which could be really cool, or it could really suck.

I'm not going with. I'll probably fly out with the girls to see him between basic and tech, though. It's definitely going to be interesting. We've never been apart for the entirety of our relationship for more than a day.

Yeah, I wasn't too thrilled with the job choice, but all he wants to be is a cop. I guess he figures if he likes it he can always cross-train into another position (we are considering....uh.....I think it was EOC???) and if he doesn't he gets a lot of application/hiring points with civilian police departments. My dad started out security forces and he said they were a pretty tight group, though. Maybe things have changed singe his time.

Took mine in '86, SFC Michael Nida told me, "You're scores qualify you for any job in the Army, what do you want to do?"

Apparently not you. Breastfeeding is not birthcontrol.

Ive got a friend from Jr. High who is AF SP, he's literally been damn near everywhere on the global the US has an installation, or air traffic control tower, or joint exercise with another country, or  some sort of aircraft detection equipment.....standing around guarding it.  I dont know if he volunteered for that duty or not but he wasn't home much for a few years there.

I had the Air Force and Navy all up my ass after I took the ASVAB, you would of thought I was the 'Dope-man' and they were the 'Crack-heads';
because the calls kept comin' for about 9 months or so. I guess I scored OK, because the Army called once...

SF is really the only job that interests me. That and EOD, which isn't really my forte. I'm hoping that I can advance and cross train into CATM or MWD after a bit. I would really enjoy CATM.

Uh Huh!   Here too!  Took the ASVAB in 83 to get out of a couple of classes at SHS....
The recruiters were on me like flies on a ribroast for the next year, until I was off to the UW...

The 3P0X1 career field is unmatched when it comes to destroying "donkey dick" antennas on AN/PSC-5s and fucking-up LMRs (Motorola XTS5000s).

Explaining to them the extreme basics as to how an LMR works is like teaching nuclear physics to a cocker spaniel.

  • Remember, it's an antenna––not a fucking handle!

  • It's a radio, not a hammer / Airman-alignment tool.

  • We rekeyed the radios on the first of the month.  That's why you couldn't understand anyone and nobody could understand you for the past fucking week and a half!  Where the fuck were you?  It's not like this month is different than the previous four months.  Were the seventeen emails reminding you from the Ground Radio shop, your Squadron LMR Custodian, Flight NCOIC, Watch Section NCOIC and your First Sergeant not sufficient?  Should I draw you a picture?  If your radio doesn't have the "secret handshake", you get no talkie.

Did I mention the rampant stupidity?

I'll let another Zoomie explain this picture:

You really don't pay attention, do you Shak?

There's a few units that "Stay home" but for the most part, everyone deploys every 3-5. Not the frequency of AD units, but still....
TARTARsos/LMG-

As far as LMG wanting to be a cop, he'd do better in the civvie world in ANY other MOS/AFSQ than the .mil police to line himself up for success. A solid 4yr career and a two year degree in hand will go a lot further. Many departments feel that they have to spend too much time breaking MP/AP's of "bad" habits, whereas they love the discipline factor and education levels of someone with the two criteria I described above. He can always persue a Reserve Career if civvie LEO is what he's angling for. YMMV/TM2C/IMHO/ECT

Drop me an IM if you want to persue Army options.

My father was a detective in the OSI for 17 years.

Was involved in spy hunts in Japan. Drug busts in Greece. Drove a limo for a vice president (and still talks about playing a game of basketball with him in down time).

He retired after 20 years, then went into marketing... My whole family was on that career move.

Yeah, we have heard that a lot. I am not sure if he is 100% on it, but that's mostly what he's talked about so far. He already has a 2 year degree, but the civilian police world is so competitive right now 'cuz there's so many guys getting laid off who have master's degrees and such, so we figure 4 years in the military can really only help him. And if he decides he likes it well enough it's pretty much guaranteed to retirement, so it's kind of a win/win for us. I'd rather he go into a job where his deployments aren't six months long. But, I've always told him I would support him in whatever he decides to do if it really truly is what he wants to do. Now he's talking about a lot more dangerous jobs.
Security forces may be the "toilet" of the military, but the way I look at it is, he's smart enough to do whatever he wants, and he chose security forces 'cuz that's what he really WANTS to do, so I'm pretty sure he's gonna kick butt.
