I was just curious how you call carry, or if you carry, while out in the woods. Last weekend I was down at Multnomah falls out side of Portland and did not like that I was unable to have a firearm on me. I know it was because I was in a different state, but I want to start hiking more around W WA after finding out how out of shape I really am.
So, how do you all carry. Still keep it concealed or place it out there for all the greenies to see? Thanks |

I have a "fanny pack" ya ya...
It's a hiking bag carries two water bottles, first aid items, gps, map ect and my G19 w/reload. Got it at REI couple of years ago. When I've been out back packing I've even just hooked a flap holster to my back pack, waist belt never been bothered by any one a bout it. You could use a man purse errr Maxpidition bag also. When hiking almost any thing works. |
There is no law against open carry in Oregon EXCEPT in the city limits of Portland, Beaverton and Tigard. You could have open carried at Multnomah falls. I do it all the time. I ALWAYS carry in the woods. You never know when a cougar is going to stray from the mall and pounce on you out there.....
edited for spelling of that damn waterfall. |

It depends. When I used to camp in the middle of nowhere open carry was fine. If I'm gonna be around other people it's concealed. Not because I care what they think but I don't see any reason to show my hand.
I wouldn't show my hand in a poker game either. When my step son comes up to visit, my wife likes to take him hiking. I got her a Taurus 651.357 mag snubbie. She carries that concealed in Kramer leather with Cor Bon 110 grain +P .38's. |

I always carry. How I choose to do that depends on what I am doing of course. Hiking and camping, I generally take something light, like my Glock 19. For camping, I take along a shotgun. I got enough weight to carry already with backpacking to want to lug a massive revolver. I might decide differently if I were in Alaska however. |

Being a girl it's a little bit harder to find baggier, bigger clothes that are still flattering, so I put up with the flack I get from people for having a gun so I can look hot while doing it. |

That chest rig is great. Not sure what king of reasons I would have gotten. However, I now see why I need a revolver. Vini I see what your saying, however with a waste strap, I still think it would impend my draw. Thanks guys! Yes, I can see how it would. Didn't think about that, as I don't use a waist strap on my ruck. In that case, I'd say some sort of "chest rig", like the old Tankers Holster, something like that. Or attach a holster to the waist strap or shoulder strap of your ruck, I suppose. A drop-leg holster would definitely keep it out of the way of the ruck also, but for me they suck to walk with for long distances. |

I was thinking along those lines last night, it would fit on the waste strap. Never hiked long distance with a leg holster. I just use it when I shoot out doors as a place to put another gun while I teach noobs.
You dont use a waste strap because you are not over weight and out of shape. And I apparently have some type of asthma, so I get winded all to easily. I need to hike more, for my health. Maybe I shouldnt tell the wife I enjoy it, then she will make me work out. |

I prefer to keep the open carry to a minimum. I have a permit to carry concealled for a reason. It's for me to know about. Not everyone else. You never know when you need that tactical advantage when a bear attacks. Defiantly don't want your OC rig to scream "Eat me first". |

I carry my Glock 19 and two extra mags inside this "man purse".
Maxpedition Versipack Fatboy This thing is very comfortable, water resistant, and expandable. It's got plenty of room for stuff you would carry on a day hike. HIGHLY recommended! |
