What are they? Do you use them? How? Why? |
|
I get an earthquake feed from USGS.
USGS RSS Earthquake feeds I've never used on for a 'forum' such as this, do they have a feed here? |
|
RSS feeds are generated by websites that have updated content. Mostly used by blogs, but they can be used for many things.
I use Google Reader for most of the blogs I follow. I also created GunBloggers.com to watch the feeds of gun bloggers and generate a top 10 posts feed. They're useful if there are a bunch of websites/blogs that you want to follow but don't want to have to check them every day/week/hour for updates. |

What are they? Updated internerd Feeds Do you use them? No, If I want news, I go to a news related site How? I think Outlook and Outlook express have special sections to add your 'subscriptions', I believe IE will update as well Why? Don't bother, it's a technology that's never really taken off (IMHO), most people are simple (like me) if you want to read the news, you go to a news site, if you want to read ARF, you navigate to ARF Tell Augustus to get back to work! |

Although the problem is that i now have like 400+ things a day to read on google reader. i just scan most of them and skip them if i don't feel like reading them. reader has nice keyboard shortcuts, so i just J J J J J J the day away. RSS and feed readers have probably killed a lot of advertising, as i don't even visit the front page of almost any website anymore, i'm just reading the feed versions of things. Ditto the CL comment, great way to find stuff on craigslist instead of searching over and over... was kinda hoping that the site redesign might add some feed support here! |

RSS is great for picking up gun ads on CL before anyone else, and capturing the info before the post is killed... http://www.steelchickens.com/forums/images/smilies/68.gif lies... believe none of this

We all know the only useful thing about Craigslist is the hookers and blow section. |
