In the continuing saga of fiddling with the Scout, here is what I have done recently.

I decided points suck. I hate messing with them. So take a couple parts from a Ford distributor and "voila" no more points

Now to upgrade the coil to a much hotter firing one..... Bronco parts now

If you have ever driven a Scout you know that the brakes suck. No matter what you do they are mushy and it doesn't stop very well. Seeing as how I like to stop I added in a Hydraboost setup out of a '94 Chevy Astrovan. Screw that vacuum brake booster, I get power by tapping into my power steering pump. For the first time ever I can lock up all 4 brakes just by looking at my brake pedal now

At least you didn't go "Me, too!" with HEI.

Wait til you lose a belt and can't stop or steer. Get's your attention real quick.

Back in '96 I transplanted a Chevy EFI system onto the 345 in my Scout II. For years,  I ran with fuel-only control until about 2003 when I grafted the top end of a GM HEI distributor onto the bottom end of the IHC's Holley's distributor. With the computer controlling both the fuel and spark curves, the old IH engine really woke up. I'm still rolling on that setup and it's been a big improvement.

Good work on the Hydraboost. I'm on 33's and can still stop OK with front disks... But I'm going to step up to 35's when these wear out and I'll probably need to do something similar. Do you have disks in the rear?

Nope still drums in the back. I was going to go disk in the back, but since doing the hydraboost I don't see the need anymore.

Hydro will still stop.. easier than trying to stop with a dead vacuum booster.

Guess I shoulda been more specific. Trying to stop10-15,000 lbs. with a broken hydroboost belt is teh sux.
