What *is* it with people - especially IT recruiters.

In the last two days, I have received inquiries from at least 2 (prolly more like 4) recruiters from NY and other places on the east coast.

Now, on any of the sites that I have put my resume online, I specifically state that I am looking for work in Washington.  That is WA.  Not Washington D.C. and nearby (which I am sure these people think NYC is close enough to D.C. for me to want to relo).

Why do I have to wade through these emails that come through, "Looking for Java developer"  in the subject line to get way to the bottom only to find that the location is NYC or Annapolis!

I usually reply to them saying that I am only looking for work in Washington and if they know of anyone in Washington to let me know.

What I want to say is "please re-read my resume and where I'd like to work - because RIF!"

If people on the east coast don't know that there is another Washington in the union, then maybe we should leave.

(ok, rant off)

Yeah, my 'tude towars work stinks lately ... I wish I could change it - but that would require a new job, and without a good attitude I can't seem to motivate myself to finding one that will improve my attitude ... you see where this is going.

That's what I said IT recruiters.

Then there are the ones around here that call you up just to see if you're looking or not - not that they actually *have* a position in mind...

I think I've been doing this too long is my problem.  I need a new career, but I don't know any that would pay even close to what I make now as a starting wage.

Otherwise life is actually pretty good

I've got the same thing happening.  I figure that headhunters/recruiters has quotas, need to check that particular box.  SO, when they cannot find enough locals they just reach...

It's especially frustrating when you speak to the head hunter and specifically say "I'm not Relocating" and they persist.  Grr.

I had a $70k Art Director offer mid December, I was High Fiving myself in my head getting excited for a moment, and then he mentions that it's in Freaking Boston. I am in the same position as you and there's no way in hell I'm moving to Boston, or anywhere East of the Mississippi.

Been up there, I don't like crowds, I think Cities Suck, I don't like people, and I find effected accents annoying.

What annoys me is when they can't tell the difference between MySQL database experience and MS SQL experience. Nothing about my resume says 'Microsoft Drone', its all embedded and Linux related –– yet I get calls from recruiters with accents so thick you can't understand them without an interpreter trying to place me for jobs in Redmond.

Not that I've ever had a recruiter actually get me into an interview either. IMHO they're not worth the time.

And telecommuting is becoming more accepted, you just have to keep looking.

Well, seems here in this thread you had the job and were giving everyone the finger for doubting you...

Any of this ring a bell?
But also, to those of you that put me down for declining the last job opportunity, it's a good thing I did... I got a job offer over in Spokane starting in about two months. Permanent, direct hire, full time, minimum starting of $65,000 a year, working on high voltage power supplies and backup systems. Sure is a LOT better than that $20k a year job that everyone made fun of me for declining... I told you that my own decisions I have made in life have gotten me farther than listening to others advice...

It seems to me that 3 weeks ago you HAD the job, now you don't, but are "in the running" (may I quote you on this in a few more weeks?).  I also recall you bragging somewhere about your gun collection going WAY up soon (again, all based on an opportunity that you assumed you were getting).  I too have applied for MANY open opportunities, none of them I have posted around here stating that I GOT the job, only to 3 weeks later say I don't.  Once again, you've put your cart before the horse and ended up with your foot in your mouth!

As it stands right now, yes, I am getting the job.  What I am saying by I am "still in the running" is that nothing has changed...  I am just waiting for the word to "come over to Spokane" and as soon as that happens I will be happy...  But I am still not getting my hopes up 100%...  They told me I had everything they want and had an impressive resume...  Again, my story has not changed...  They told me they would call if plans have changed and I haven't gotten that call just yet...

I do a mixture of both internet and walking...  To me, applying in person is, well...  More personal and gives the employer a better feel for your personality.  However, you don't always get to meet the person doing the hiring...  Locally, I do it on foot...  Other jobs, I am doing online...  Mainly because they are limited access areas...

Well for better or worse, I've had 3 recruiters come out of the woodwork smelling blood at the soft drink factory ... they're recruiting what they can out of the factory given the public rumors. Met one of them today, and they had a decent offer, matched stock forfeits with money, etc. Stunned me for a bit, but since I survived the hatchet this round, I figure I might as well stay, kept the business card though.

They other coaster based recruiters might be trying to hit an ex soft drink factory employee ... searching for Washington / Seattle / Redmond blindly.

Moral of the story: feel lucky you're at least still worthy enough to be bought and sold like a piece of meat

Fine, here is the job detail that the company sent me...  Since you seem to be "calling my bluff."  How is this a lie?  Please tell me?  Would you like me to send you the voice mails and e-mails the company has sent me regarding pay and benefits, along with when I would be possibly starting?  Please, again, tell me where I lied and have "changed my story."  By all means...  Please....    What is funny is that they set the salary...  I asked for a meager $35k a year and they told me that wouldn't do...  They bumped MY request of $35k to $65k....
