So I made a joke to some friends as I passed through the Oregon border into California that I needed my passport at the fruit inspection "customs" station, and that I was entering occupied territory.
Well, I made it back to the "free" States just fine, and much to my surprise I'm stopped for no reason at all except to have a working dog check out my truck while I have to verify my citizenship. What the hell happened to probable cause? |

What the hell happened to probable cause? WTF? They had no right, besides, how are they going to verify that? I don't carry my passport with me unless I'm going into Canada. I don't carry my birth certificate with me. What, are they suppose to trust a drivers license? They give those out to anyone. |

The dog was outside the vehicle, but I had to sit there while it sniffed all around my truck, the tires, the gas tank, and the under side. I showed my passport, but chances are a legit looking driver's license or other got't ID would have been good enough. But I was specifically asked "are you a US citizen?"
By the way, these were border patrol agents in Arizona. It had *nothing* to do with California or its politics. This was a "free" State. |

See, while you were off fighting for our freedoms in Iraq there was a coup back here and we are now all good little citizens of the People's Republic of America. Maximum leader is to be anointed in 11 days. (What I find funny is that the Libs. rightly complain about stops like this, but when they are in power they get worse, not better). |

"What's the nature of this stop?" "Am I being detained?" "Am I free to go?" I thought about that, but didn't think it appropriate in this case. It wasn't a traffic stop. It was a TCP. They had a temporary checkpoint set up and were stopping all traffic going that direction on the freeway. Heck, I might have preferred a random stop to a checkpoint. I'd like to get my congressman or senator involved, but I honestly don't think it would help. |

Kinda like a traffic stop for those that have been drinking. |

What the hell happened to probable cause? Migradog's brothers from Border patrol, yes? Wanted to make sure you weren't smuggling illegals undocumented citizens. When driving a rental car from Monterey, CA, to San Angelo, TX, we were stopped at a BP/Immigration TCP somewhere in TX. They asked if we were all US Citizens, so we showed them our green cards. 3 of us answered in Korean, and one in German. We probably almost got busted for Criminal Smart Assery, but I guess they figured 4 GIs weren't much of a threat... |

Just bumping into each other, waiting for the final curtain...
I was watching Band of Brothers where the liberated town is shaving the heads of Nazi supporters in the town square, wonder if we will be able to do that or are we going to be the ones strung up? And how many countries besides us have had a revolution and come out ahead in history? What are the odds it could happen twice in the same place? |

BP/Customs has a PERMANANT checkpoint on I-5 and I-205(IIRC) in north San Diego County. Apparently the only reason it's legal is that it isnt operated 365 days a year. Sort of a weigh station like set up where they close the freeway and route all traffic through it. The day I was leaving San Diego in 01 I got routed through it. Beat up 4x4 Dodge with Idaho plates and a redneck with a Confederate flag ball cap didnt warrant much besides "Heading home?" and a wave on through.
As I recall they ran "insurance checkpoints" as well in SD county. As far as the Forks thing goes , Seattle falls under that 100 miles radius from the border as well. I'd love too see that on I-5 in Seattle. They'd hafta line up dozens of buses. And cases of pepper spray for the irrate citizens being detained for contempt of cop, failure to comply. |

I'd love to see an "insurance checkpoint" anywhere in Washington. I have no facts in front of me but I seem to remember someone say one time that only 1 in 4 drivers have insurance between Federal Way and Seattle. Ever wonder why your rates are high? During our "snow emergency", both my wife and I got our cars hit by uninsured drivers. All that money we've been paying to Progressive Insurance is finally paying off. We've always carried Under-/Uninsured on our car insurance policies, based on what I learned during the short time I was a deputy. Bottom line, half of the folks you see driving probably don't have insurance, the other half probably has something wrong with their license/driving record/warrants, and the third half don't have neither!

What pisses me off is that it's a state law to have insurance and yet these fuckwads just don't care. |

I drove to Texas from California with a friend of mine right after we graduated high school. We were stopped at some seemingly random mobile (he was in a trailer) checkpoint and asked if we were citizens, and had to show some ID. |

Yea they do that in Vancouver too... Just because you were coming from California doesn't mean the illegals coming from mexico weren't using the same road. You'd be surprised at the amount of "americans" (drug dealers and coyotes) that travel on highways and get caught because of the TCP's. |

You'd be surprised at the number of drug dealers who could get caught by randomly searching houses, too, but that doesn't make it right. If they don't have probable cause (vehicle matches the suspect's, violating a traffic law, etc), then you shouldn't get stopped. |

I will spew all the shit I want. What did I say that was wrong? Are the Liberals not in charge of this state? Incase you forgot government is elected and therefore the people that elect the elected officials are in charge. Have you lived in Seattle? I have while I when to college and I hated living there. It was was and is so liberal. The state is run by the voters of KING COUNTY because they have the majority. So you are trying to tell me the there are no LIB TARDS that have moved here? and that all the ones that are here are home grown? The truth is the LIB TARD culture is being injected into our schools and cities because of the people that have moved here and the idiots that have voted and asked for it to be here by voting for LIB TARDS. Our state is pretty damn stupid if you ask me because the 3 most "powerful" people politically are woman. No wonder Boeing left and we now have a deficit here, because they don't understand business. This state is one of the worst to own a business in. |

Happened to me in Texas more times than I can count when out on the interstate near borders. Im 50/50 on the issue, as it was always late at night, and I hate illegal immigrants.
If they ever got me during the day I'd be tempted to tell them I'm foing through. They were always pretty damn nice about it though. |

Geico gave radar guns to police departments across the country. I switched from Geico to Progressive for that reason. If I investigated the politics of every business I used in my life, and chose from that criteria alone, I'm not sure I'd have any insurance, no bank accounts, and I'd have to raise all of the food I eat. Now, that's not a bad idea, but I don't have a lot of time for all that stuff. |
